Harold W.Ponsness
1917-2011
Harold W. Ponsness, 94, Paola, died July 18, 2011, at the North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola.
Harold Winkler Ponsness was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Badger, Iowa, the son of Jonas B. and Eva Winkler Ponsness.
He graduated as valedictorian of his 1935 Spring Hill High School class.
In 1954, he married Gladys Lewis. She preceded him in death in 1994.
He had been a lifelong farmer and carpenter, also serving in the Army during World War II.
On April 16, 1995, he married Dona R. Cox in Paola. She survives at the home.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge of Spring Hill and the First Baptist Church of Paola. He was an avid collector of corn planter lids, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a skilled woodworker.
He is survived by his wife, Dona of the home; a son, Dennis Ponsness of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three step-sons, Ronnie Bond of Paola, Ray Bond of Weston, Mo., and Randy Bond of Paola; a step-daughter, Reva Collins of Paola; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Paola. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening, also at the church. Burial in the Bucyrus Cemetery will follow services on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Friendship Class of First Baptist Church in care of Wilson’s, P.O. Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
