    Labs

I have a black lab and she is sooooooooo sweet and smart!!! I love her soooo much! We got her as a gift from one of the best breeders in MI. She is very pretty, shiny coat, white teeth and so on. She is very healthy except she gets ear infections alot! Any ideas on how to prevent this?

    Hey, LabLover,

I've got Labs too. My youngest one had ear infections too and it turned out she was allergic to Lamb in her food. She's now on Chicken and she's fine. Check with your vet first though to rule out anything else!

My female use to get chronic ear infections.
At least once or twice a year.
I was taking her to the vet where he treated her with an otic antibiotic drops. One vet visit he told me
that once her infection cleared up I
should use an over the counter ear cleaner
by the name of Otic-clense now sold
    under the name of Pet-Otic.
Shure enough using this just a couple times a week she has not had an ear infection since.
Ask your vet and see if he recommends
cleaning your dogs ears with it, after
    the infection has cleared up.

    Sheltielover,
I think Goblin is a wonderful name and I am so glad you decided to keep it. The chewing will go on for a while, so "puppy proof" your home. Mine even tried to chew the plaster off the walls when they were smaller. Now they are partial to plants in the yard, rugs and shoes!

Hi I love labs, I have a black lab called Pepsi she is really clever. She has worked out how to open all the doors and cupboards in our house. I dont mind because I love her to bits. I take her to lots of shows, she recently qualified for the obedience at Crufts in the UK. Everyone was really surprised because they didnt think a lab would be that clever and well behaved enough to get to Crufts.

Hi Lab Love, EVERYONE here knows (ad nauseum, I'm sure) that I have a yellow lab named Star. I can't say she is exactly, well mannered, but CLEVER!!?? If any dog breed was born to outsmart her/his human, it's a lab. It's what I love most about them. ALWAYS THINKING and scheming!!! As to the ear infections, labs seem very predisposed to ear infections: Lots of outdoor activities, swimming, ear anatomy, etc. Star had one or two infections as a pup; treated with Otobiotic Rx ear ointment and she was fine; vet said to clean ears (well into ear) with unscented baby wipes, or, as was mentioned, Pet-Otic every few days. She says that because of the shape of their ear canals, it is impossible to go in "too far" and do any harm. Star hasn't had an infections since, despite rolling in the sand and dirt, swimming constantly, etc. Good Luck and Hi to your Labby
