St Anne's C/E Church in Ryde is my family church, everybody in my family has been Christened, married and funeraled there. I have seen Granny Smiths grave many times, and I can remember my Grandmother (born circa 1890) telling me many stories about that lady. Stories Granma got from her mother, who knew Granny Smith.

COOL, Wom! I knew the GS apples were from NZ, but how interesting to hear some history. Wow.

No, they were not from NZ. She grew them in an orchard in Ryde about 2 miles away from the church.

The apple isn't a very good likeness. The nose is too short and round.

She used to trip over a lot, so the apples generally took the same shape as an impression of her face.
