    Kia Weight Loss

I took Kia in today for her annual check up. Usually they get her weight before we enter the exam room, but they had a pair of cats that needed to be weighed, so we went into the exam room first.

Because of Kia's age, I opted to have a full blood panel done. It'll test her liver and kidney functions, cholesterol levels, and for diabetes among other things.

She was a very good girl while getting poked and proded.

After the exam, I put Kia on the scale out of curiosity and was shocked at the number. She's 35 lbs. Kia's lost 10 lbs. in less than a month.

Fingers crossed that nothing serious is causing this. Her appetite has been normal so I'm really at a loss.

That seems significant, Kimmy!!! Any chance the scale wasn't right? Or, that the last time she was weighed, it wasn't right? Hoping it is nothing...

What did the blood work show? When Myndi was so sick last week, doc immediately thought renal failure because of her weight loss and age. Thankfully, blood work showed that kidney function was fine.

Hoping for the best for Kia.

The vet was confident that the scale was working right. They even recalibrated it and had her get on again and the number was the same.

Dr. Kuschel will call me this afternoon with the results of the blood tests.

Kia is okay! Her blood tests came back normal. The techs investigated further and it turns out the scale is indeed broken.

They went as far as weighing themselves and while they loved the new numbers, , that was a clear indication that it wasn't accurate.

Whew! I'm so glad to hear that Kia is fine and that the scale was broken. I wonder how many other pet parents were told that their pets had also lost a lot of weight.

Whew! Had me worried there. Glad it tuned out to be an error and not a problem. I would think that if she had really lost 10 lbs, you would have easily noticed, cause she's not a huge dog. Sure am glad Miss Kia is a-ok!

So glad to hear it was just a glitch in the scale!! 10lbs is A LOT to lose in a month- especially for our furry kiddos!
