Dennis Gabor, ahead of his time Dennis Gabor was a brilliant man with dozens of awards and accomplishments and Google is celebrating his birthday today with Google doodle. Gabor was born on June 5, 1890and died February 8, 1979. He was a British-Hungarian Jewish Engineer and inventor and he is notably known for inventing holography. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics for this invention. He had an interest in electron optics which led to the studying of the processes of oscillograph which eventually led to the TV tubes and plasma lamps. His research led him to focus on electron inputs and outputs which developed into the invention of re-holography and this idea confirmed that for perfect optical imaging you have to use all of your information rather than only part. He also researched on how humans hear and communicate and he develop the theory of granular synthesis. In 1948 Gabor became Professor of Applied Physics at Imperial College in London. He became interested in Social analysis and published “The Mature Society which was a view of the future. He received numerous more awards as lasers developed rapidly and different varieties of holographic materials develop. His accomplishments will surely be appreciated more and more as the years fly by.
