    Do You BOINC?

    Do you BOINC?

Just curious, if you know what it is you will understand my question. If you don’t know, the information on what the project is, is listed below.

I have been BOINCing for several years now. The projects that I am currently running are –

    SETI@Home
    Einstein@Home
    Milkyway@Home
    LHC@Home

If you do, I was wondering if you are on any teams?
    Do you enjoy it?
Do you have any recommendations of other projects?

BOINC is a program that lets you donate your idle computer time to science projects like SETI@home, World Community Grid, and many others.
After installing BOINC on your computer, you can connect it to as many of these projects as you like.
Use the idle time on your computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux) to cure diseases, study global warming, discover pulsars, and do many other types of scientific research.

Once I spoke the language of the flowers,

Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,

Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,

And shared a conversation with the housefly

    in my bed.

Once I heard and answered all the questions

    of the crickets,

And joined the crying of each falling dying

    flake of snow,

Once I spoke the language of the flowers. . . .

    How did it go?

After getting a computer virus a few weeks ago (the 1st time in the 4 years that I've had this computer), I don't think I would trust anything like this. So my answer is a big NO!

I have found that is very safe. I have never 'caught' anything from them. I have from a few other sites, I have some software that lets me trace those things. I just wanted to know what other people do with their spare time - that is if there is any because being on PT can take up most of it

I used BOINC at one time, but I only did a little more than nothing with SETI@Home. On a slightly related note, I used Folding@Home far more, and I'm on the Ubuntu F@H team.

In other news, I very highly doubt you could catch anything from a distributed computing program, unless the upstream computers are infected, but that is also extremely unlikely, as (I think) they all run Linux or some form of Unix.
