Instead of walking around the block and leaving a scent so Patches can find the way home, how about just not letting Patches out of the house in the first place? And if, on the way home, Patches gets thirsty and drinks some antifreeze or gets run over? Patches is a loved family member not expendable, temporary entertainment. Show your love by keeping your family member indoors where it's safe.
