    Rita's dental

As most of you know, I am in veterinary (technician) school. I am now a 2nd term student. (There are 4 terms in all, each term is 5 months)
As a student in the program, we are allowed to make an appointment with the DVM instructor, to bring in our (generally healthy) animals, to get spayed, neutered, or have a dental. (Teeth cleaning).

Today, Rita's dental pre-op is at 5:30pm. The cleaning procedure will be next tuesday, the 13th.

And as some of you know, Rita is very dog, anything-with-four legs aggressive. Please, please, please give us some good thoughts and pray for her GOOD behavior. Recently, she has been showing good progress when I take her for walks!

But, just a few minutes ago, I had to call her inside for attacking the fence. There is a smaller dog on the other side, and she is constantly running back and forth, growling, and barking at the fence/other dog.

    Thanks in advance.

So, her pre-op on thursday night overall went pretty well. They drew blood, (poor thing had a huge hematoma on her right jugular!), took chest x-rays, and tested her urine, and checked her anals.
Her behavior was okay. She tried numerous times to open the door from inside of the radiology room, (I kept her in their for obvious reasons, her dog aggression)! Luckily, the door was pretty heavy, but she did manage to crack it open, so I stood in front of the door for the remainder of the time. She loves everyone, and was wagging her tail as they were drawing her blood. Well, she is my big dumb happy Labrador!

I hope all continues to go well for her with the procedure next week. Keep us posted please.

    Hope it goes well

Yes... I hope the cleaning is very uneventful and it goes well. I know that if our dogs ever have a bad experience with the vet, it is "all over". They don't ever want to go back and seem to have very good memories about different rooms and needles, tables, etc. Anything that was unpleasant, they seem to remember and if we are at the vet and they open the room for where something did not go so well, they immediately start to cry and start to pull away and want to get "out". They are SOOO smart and really do have good memories. Good luck!

Fingers and Paws crossed that Rita behaves and everything goes well. I'm sure she'll do fine! That's neat that they allow to bring pets in for those procedures. Are they free?

I actually need to make a dental appointment for Molli because she's never had one! (I'm a bad puppy mamma) I just don't have the money right now.

Rita's dental went very well last night, thanks everyone for your good thoughts

She did GREAT with the anesthesia induction, and the teeth cleaning. She recovered well, too. Althought after we woke her up, we put her in a cage, and the poor girl was trying to get up and walk around, and she was banging her head around.

The DVM at school prescribed her some medication, Rimadyl & Clavamox. Those should help to prevent any sort of infection, and pain.

Good to hear Rita did well, except for the cage part.
