Seeds for cat grass

My boys are really good about leaving plants alone - EXCEPT for spider plants (Oscar) and a philodendron (Cole)! They WOULD pick the worst plants....

The plants are safely out of the way. I know they need and love grass - but I don't like buying the pots in pet stores...you get a couple weeks of grass and the seed doesn't keep growing because it is wheat or something. I tried regular grass seed too, but it's hard to get it growing thick and even in a pot (I live on the second floor here so outdoors is not an option).

I am happy to buy the seed and a larger pan to plant it in. Any advice?

There are plenty of hits, many with seeds.

Whenever MY cats eat grass, they later vomit it up. NOT something I want to encourage by growing it!

I've had some success using Barley Cat. It is a green powder supplement you sprinkle on their food. Helps give them what they are seeking by eating the plants. Here is just one link (search for a good price, but this lets you see the product)

I used to buy Cat Grass the odd time but a Certain Orange Lion kept knocking it over!!I wont name names, but its not Mr Purrr!!!

Candace i just purchased some cat grass already grown from the garden centre, and i have to warn you not ONE of my kitty crew will even touch it, they are still eating the grass around the section, but as your kitties are indoors it may well be worth a try, it is supposed to have lots of vitamins and minerals in it, i must say i am hugely disappointed in my lot ,not even trying it, so for now it is in a planter on the verandah, i live in hope that they might actually give it a go lol.

I've read that if you sprinkle it on a sponge, and keep the sponge moist, the grass will grow ... I've had the exact same problem in that Cassie loooves grass, but she'll eat it and then barf; and cat grass is expensive at the pet store, doesn't last very long and I always wind up with tiny bugs in the house afterward.

my plant cost me $3.49, yes wasted on them, but worth a try, seeds will be even less expensive, it has grown like a weed out there in the planter, here's hoping those nawtee puddies of mine start eating it lol.,not holding my breath though.

Morgan loves the cat grass. I've grown some for him and bought it at Petsmart too. After 11 years, I finally read that little card that comes in the grass. It says to only give it to them for brief periods of time and then when they aren't eating it put it in the fridge!! It helped to prolong the life of the grass by quite a while. I haven't been near a pet store in months, so Morgan hasn't had any in a long time. I wish I had learned about keeping it cold a long time ago.
