Some new pics of our female stork (new pic #11)

Been a while that I met the female stork, the "widow", so to speak, in the fields, but a couple of days ago, I saw her in a meadow. Maybe you remember that I posted a while ago about the death of the male stork, and the loss of their babies as a result of the tragic accident: One of our storks is dead

Anyway, here're female, who is now spending the summer on her own, without a family to care for:
















My camera doesn't take such great photos on that distance, but at least you'll get an idea of what an impressive bird she is! And you can study the way she's walking, which looks kinda funny.

I don't know about your camera - but YOU take great pictures. I am glad to see she is ok. I know that most likely she will be alone now but at least she is fine.
(You know that when they asked Man Ray about what brand his camera was he said "You wouldn't ask Leonardo what brand of paintbrush he would use." )

Wow, she came back? Is she going to live here for the summer? It's just so sad about her mate, she looks so lonely. But she is stunningly beautiful That is one thing that didn't change.

She's been there all summer, sleeping in her nest at night, but during the day, she's often doing extended trips now that there is no one to care for. That's why I barely see her during my lunch breaks. But in the mornings when I come to work, she's always in her nest.

And yes, storks are spending their summers here in Germany (and some other European countries), they are going to leave in August or September, heading for Africa or Southern Europe. In Spring, they will return to mate, and to hatch...

Kirsten, how nice to see your lady stork back again! Your photographs are beautiful (of course). She looks like she is doing quite well. Here's hoping for the best for her, maybe a new mate and new babies next year.

I somehow missed your thread before on the death of the male stork. I'm so sorry to learn about this now. Rest in peace, daddy and baby storks.

Great pics, can you tell me how tall she is or how wide her wingspan is?

Big Birds like that scare the wind out of me, but they are great to watch in flight!
