Dog Show (warning! lots of photos!)

Went to a dog show today... and not just any dog show! This is actually only the third dog show ever held in my country. I didn't show my own dogs but I was there as volunteer worker for the big day... of course, I also used the opportunity to snap some photos of all the gorgeous dogs I saw.

This was an official national FCI dog show. Faroe Islands have been part of the Danish Kennel Club for a couple of years, so it's a lot of fun to see dog breeding and dog ownership being taken a step further around here

Not that I know all that much about showing dogs, to be honest
But I do know a lot of the people who showed their dogs (since I'm a trainer for DKK) so it was great fun watching them do their stuff

Anyway. Enough rambling. On with the photos. Sorry if some of them are kind of blurry

    Terje, Parson Russell Terrier.

English Springer Spaniel I don't know the name of.

Chihuahua puppy I don't know the name of either.

Akita, the Boxer. Yep. A Boxer named Akita. lol.

    Flykra, Japanese Spitz

    Dido, Shetland Sheepdog.

Blixen, Italian Greyhound. She wasn't entered in the show, since she recently lost her leg. She broke it when she jumped off a table or something and apparently the damage was so severe they couldn't save the leg
She's still full of life tho'. So I guess it doesn't bother her all that much.
By the way. Her mouth looks really deformed in that pic but that's just because she's chewing a treat XD

Another one of Blixen... sitting very awkwardly

Another Chihuahua puppy I didn't get the name of.

    Nikita, Whippet.

    Snoopy, Papillon.

    Sif, Beagle.

    Rósa, Beagle.

Snjó, Japanese Spitz. Such an adorable little fluffball!

And Snjó again. I stole him from his owner for a good couple of minutes

    West Highland White Terrier.

    Collie

    Gizmo, Pug.

    Nico, Dobermann

And of course.. last but not least..

My mutt, Taggart, and my non-pedigree Jack Russell, Tiki! Best dogs in the world, in my humble opinion!

Lots of nice looking dogs. I'll bet it was a fun day. I like the pups in the last pic the best.

I always find it interesting to see breeds with tails when they normally don't have them.. like the Boxer and the Doberman. Sad story about the It. Greyhound... what a freak accident. Good pics!

Bunny: BoxerxSheppard mix, Eli: Boxer, Treo: Boxer
Zeke [RB]: RottweilerxAustrailian Cattle Dog mix

Oscar & Chloe: White's Tree Frogs, Kiwi & Wasabi: Green Tree Frogs

Yeah. I can imagine. Luckily it's illegal in all the Nordic countries, so the dogs get to keep their beautiful ears and tails

Are Collies bigger in America btw? (just asking this to anyone who might know)

I haven't seen many Collies is real life but I always get the impression that the ones I see, are a lot smaller than the ones I see on TV, and here on Pet Talk and other places on the internet.

Yes.. the European bred Collie is 2 inches shorter at the shoulders than the North American Collies. European Collies are 20-22" tall for bitches and 22-24" for dogs. In N. America they are 22-24" for bitches and 24-26" for dogs.

There are a lot of differences between the two though... more than just height. Also in most European countries roughs and smooths are considered two separate breeds... and are not allowed to be interbred. In the US and Canada they are one breed, with 2 varieties and are often bred together. Just a little extra info LOL
If you're gonna breed Collies, don't you forget to breed in the brains and common sense. Without that you won't have a Collie, you'll have just another dog.

Looks like a great time! One of my life goals is to make it to a dog show someday. They look like a lot of fun. Then again, who wouldn't have fun being surrounded by such gorgeous dogs?

Oh so many adorable puppers... I'm a bit partial to the Westie and Collie though.

Wow. Two inches different in height. That's quite a lot. Guess my eyes haven't been deceiving me after all

Never saw a Parson Russell Terrier before but he is ADORABLE.
The lemon/white Beagle is my favorite though.
