    Dog Locked In Van

I don't know if anyone heard of this story from Burlington,Vermont that happened over Christmas and New Years.A man from Frelighsburg,Quebec, went on a trip, leaving on a plane from Burlington,he said he didn't know his 12 year old Miniature Poodle Michou was there.the dog was in the cold van for 19 days with no food or water,it had lost 11 pounds from 20- to 9.they couldn't believe the dog was still alive. The police didn't have any evidence to prove it was deliberate,so he was only fined $100..the dog is doing better now, gaingin weight and is living with a retired couple.the people are behind and supporting his original owner, saying it not deliberate.I remember us leaving our late Miniature poodle Ruffles home alone or with someone like me here and he would howl like crazy,so i find it hard to believe he didn't know the dog was there. The local NBC station down in Burlington did an editorial and really slammed the guy for doing this. This story was in the Toronto Star yesterday.the odd time when we would go out I would tape Ruffles doing that,I have a tape of that in the radio, just heard it and he was howling, makes me feel sad hearing him.
thanks very much devon. I have been boo'd.

He must have been so scared and hungry! I can see that happening, but it is sad. Not every dog is a howler, and so many just love "going for a ride" that he may have hopped in, and a van is big enough that he must have gotten behind something for the "ride." Poor doggie! He should have barked when the guy initially arrived and parked!

Not that you're asking ME but: I do a "visual" on them all the time. Before bed, before leaving the house, sometimes "just because". OMG...whenever I do laundry! Sometimes, we're out the door and one of us will say "did you see Moon before we left?" Back to the house to check if one of us can't say yes

That breaks my heart. I do not see how he didn't know the dog was there. I hope the guy doesn't have children. I hate seeing dogs locked in cars.

I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt. The circumstances make that hard to do.

    1) Was there someone at home that was going to care for the dog.
    2) If not how was it going to survive at home for 19 days alone.
    3) if there was someone, why did they not ask about the dog or alert
him that the dog was missing.
    4) If I am away I am checking with the care person about my pet.
    5) In that hour + drive with border crossing, why was this dog so silent that he didn't
    know it was there?

I had a neighbor that was just as stupid about her dog. There were several cases that the pet would have died if I had not stepped in to feed and water the penned animal. She would go off to the beach and leave her dog with enough food and water for a day. On one occasion she was gone for 2 weeks. I called the sheriff on one occasion after I had fed the pet. He said I should have called before feeding because
the pet was ok now and he couldn't do anything as long as it was ok.

There are many people that should not have pets of any kind.
