RIP Sweet Callie Ann...

My daughter called me and asked me to come over and look at her 10 year old cat, Callie Ann. When I walked in the door I couldn't believe my eyes. She was so emaciated and dehydrated. I hadn't seen her in a while and did notice that she lossed a little weight, but not like that.

We ran her up to my vet because her vet couldn't fit her in. They ran bloodtests on her and she was in the advanced stages of renal failure.

My daughter is beside herself. Her other cat is stuck to her like Velcro.

I feel so bad that I didn't listen to my daughter weeks ago. She told me she was worried about Callie losing weight and I shrugged it off as a cat getting older.

RIP my sweet Callie Ann. Your nana loved you from the minute I laid eyes on you the day you were born.

Play hard at the Rainbow Bridge and know that you were loved.

I'm sorry that you had to leave, Callie Ann, but given how sick you were, it was for the best. Now you can rest and then run freely and not have a care in the world. RIP, sweet one, and peace to you and your daughter, Donna.

Please don't feel badly. You know what? My Silver babygirl was 18 and was sick for several months and going downhill and should have been put down at least around Thanksgiving 06 but I as her mama was in total denial and wanted her to be here for christmas and she was but dec 28th she just was not here anymore and i could not deny it anymore. and did the humane loving thing for her. despite it is and will always be trhe most heartbreaking thing for me. Your sweet Callie is ok now and free from pain and running aroyund with my Silver and all others at RB.

So many of us here have been through what you are all going through now, so know that we are all sending thoughts and prayers to you.

We had to let our beloved Billy go in June, and it is so very, very hard. Just know that now Callie Ann is not suffering and is happy, healthy and joyfully chasing butterflies with the rest of our angels at the Rainbow Bridge.

i really think they are just like humans in the way that they could be Angels looking over their loved ones.i'm sure one day we'll all be together.not just people but our pets too.

I asked my daughter the other night if she blamed me for not getting Callie to the vet when she first asked me (I had to work and couldn't do it). The first appointment available was Jan. 15th. She told me that she didn't understand why I didn't believe her when she told me she was worried about her. I told her that renal failure in a cat, according to my vett, is very difficult to detect and is usually recognized when it is too far advanced, which was Callie's case.

So now I've got yet another guilt trip thrust upon me as a Mother. My best friend was furious with me, saying that Amy could've easily taken a taxi to the vet or called her if she was so worried about Callie. She's right but I still feel bad. Amy says she now regrets not having Callie privately cremated. I tried to talk her into it but she said $180 was too expensive. When I had Casey cremated, I made installments and got his ashes back when the bill was paid. I do not regret my decision.

I wish parenthood came with an instruction manual.

Donna - it wasn't your fault - get that thought out of your head now!!! Your daughter could have at least called the vet with her concerns, and I'm sure they would have seen Callie asap if they felt she needed to be seen. It was just all an unfortunate set of circumstances. Sh!t happens!!!

And that's pretty pricey for cremation of a pet. I have the ashes of all my RB cats and dogs and never paid over $100 - and usually quiet a bit less than that. And that was for individual cremation which is more expensive than a group cremation.
