Mexican Hairless and Chinese Crested??????

I can't figure out the difference between the Mexican Hairless and the Chinese Crested. Or are they the same breed? How does Xoloitxcuintli fit in there?

And, which one(s) are AKC recognized. Thanks for reading everyone. Maybe you can help me

The Chinese Crested is a AKC recognized breed. Mexican Hailess dogs look NOTHING like Chinese Cresteds. Xoloitxcuintlis (Xolos) are related to Mexican Hairless dogs. Chinese Cresteds can have fur all over (they call it the "powderpuff" version) or they can have fur in specific spots such as their head and neck, tail, legs, abd some other parts.

I always thought that they are the same breed of dog but the powderpuff was a bit of a throwback to when the dog had hair. The hairless variety having being bred on through mutations. I heard stories that people used to shave their powderpuffs on the morning of a show to present them as hairless. Knowing nothing of the breed(s) I can well imagine I have swallowed a totally ridiculous story, but that is what I heard! (I take no responsibility for my being an idiot if this proves to be wrong or for my being an undiscovered genius if it is right!)

So, you're saying that

Xoloitxcuintli are related to Mexican Hairless dogs. They are not the same as Chinese Cresteds.

The Chinese Crested is recognized by the AKC. They come in the "powderpuff" version or hairless with specific spots of fur on head, neck, etc.

Okay, according to the source I have, Xoloitzcuintli is just another name for the Mexican Hairless, This breed was developed by the Aztecs, and can come on a "Powder puff" version, which does have hair, but they can't be show dogs.

The Chinese Crested was developed half a world away, in China, and was first seen in the Han dynasty. It, too has a "hairy" or "Powder puff" version, and these apparently CAN be show dogs! Even the "hairless" version of the Chinese Crested does have long fur on his head and ankles, unlike the Mexican Hairless. Oh, yeah, the Mexican Hairless comes in standard, miniature and toy sizes, the CC in just one.

Xolos are very close related breeds to mexican hairless. But the Chinese doesn't even fit in. That is what I have read.

This was driving me nuts! So I have talked to just about every doggy person I know, and one or two I don't ( two of these people were very helpful, one ran away screaming and one phoned the police!)
The Mexican Hairless is Xoloitzcuintli, one and the same and nothing at all to do with the the Chinese Crested. Please forgive me for being stupid but it runs in the family, honest!
Two interesting things I discovered about the Mexican Hairless - it has no premolar teeth and a normal body temperature of 40.5 degrees C!
