    Is there anyway to...

prevent a cat from shredding my toilet paper??? I don't know who the culprit is (my gut feeling is Alicat) but I can't even keep a roll whole on the tp holder!!! UGH!!

Remember my Lilith, Donna? She used to love to shred toilet paper and paper towel. Vixen also liked to do it on occasion but not like Lilith did. (God I miss that girl!) The only thing that worked for us was to keep the bathroom door closed tight at all times. As for the paper towels we had to keep those in a cupboard with an elastic on the door to stop her from getting those.

    Good Luck.

The only one way we have found too stop the shredders. We put the TP on so that it feeds from the rear and when we find someone going for it our handy swart bottle come in to play. Usually after a couple of time the shredding stops.

Yeah, we had to do the same with thing with Halo. We just had to make sure to close the door -- especially when we weren't there. It took a while, but she lost interest. Now, we can keep the door open when we leave.

Donna, there is NO way sweet Alicat is responsible for this shredding: the Toilet Paper Genie is the culprit!

Sorry, that is the ONE thing I have yet to deal with, in 14 years of owning cats, so no ideas from me on this one.

    Anikaca77,

    You mean like this?

This is Otto, formerly known as Tucker. He was my cat till my friends Mike and Carolyn Kodas adopted him. He is INFAMOUS for shredding toilet paper and paper towels. Mike got this perfect picture of him in the act. It's one of my favorites.

Oh that picture of Otto is too funny!

I don't have cats but I've been visited by the TP Genie twice in the past when we first got Buddy. He wouldn't take it off the roll.. he'd just lean in and chew on the TP while it was still on the roll!
Talk about a big slobbery glop of chewed on TP. UGH!

I would have to say I would keep the TP in a drawer or in a cabinet in the bathroom.

    Some links and ideas:

    http://piankay.blogspot.com/2006/11/...christmas.html

(this one snaps open and closed easily)

    LOL - like this one:
Balance a light weight plastic bowl about half full of water on top of the roll so that when it's disturbed, the water spills out. Yeah, it makes a mess, but I had to do it only twice to break the stubborn toilet paper dragging yearling I once had - she never touuched it again for the rest of her 17 years.
Get a wide rubber band and stretch it over the TP and on the posts holding the roll. Pull the rubber band into the roll until it become difficult to spin. This will allow you to unroll the paper when needed but take all the fun of a spinning roller for the cats.
Do you have one of these for sale where you work? :

How about the 'bird feeder' method? install a small shelf below the roll that will still allow you to get the paper easily, but will frustrate efforts from below! Just make the shelf long enough so that pawsies can't reach over the edge and grab.

That is PRICELESS!! I laughed harder than I have all day! That is just to darn cute!! One priceless picture if I ever saw one!

Then right on top of that laugh..

OH MY! Just the mental image of that....

Amy use to shred the paper towels but that cured itself when she was no longer able to get on the counter tops. Now and then she would shred any paper she could find but I guess that got to difficult for her to do too...

I think I've found a solution. There's towel bar above the tp. I just hang a hand towel on the bar and it covers the toilet paper. We'll see if it works.

Isn't that picture a hoot?? Michael is such an awesome photojournalist and the picture is priceless. Is that the look of guilt on Otto's face?? Hardly. It's more like, "BUSTED!!!"

THOSE SOLUTIONS TO TP TERROROSM ARE SO FUNNY!' IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY HAD A TP PROTECTOR AT PETSMART BUT THE COST OF IT WAS SEVERAL ROLLS OF TP. SO I JUST HOPE THAT JJJ3 WOULD GROW OUT OF IT, AND THANKFULLY HE DID.

That was going to be my suggestion. My Creamsicle is the culprit in my family but she doesn't just shred it; she drags it down the hallway and into the foyer.
