ReachOut Rescue - any chance you might see some of these dogs? I saw the story on the 10 PM news last night - the dogs all looked pretty little, like Chis or Papillons. The ones they showed had been bathed and towel dried, and the spokesman for PAWS said they had also had food and fresh water before their baths. It will be about 2 weeks before they're ready for new homes, and the reporter referred potential adopters to a link on the station Web site that would go to PAWS Web site for more information.

49 dogs seized from Peotone barn
Tribune staff report
March 2, 2008
PEOTONE - Authorities raided a suspected puppy mill Saturday in Will County, seizing 49 dogs in stacked cages and covered in excrement, the Cook County sheriff's office said. Authorities raided a Peotone farmhouse about 11 a.m. in response to a weeklong investigation of a possible dogfighting or puppy-mill operation in Cook County, said Penny Mateck, a sheriff's spokeswoman.

Although there were no pit bulls or signs of dogfighting, authorities found 49 dogs ranging in age from 3 months to 4 years in an unheated barn, Mateck said.

All the dogs were taken into protective custody and are being evaluated by veterinarians at PAWS in Tinley Park, an official for the animal welfare society said. The woman has not been charged, Mateck said.
