    Question What's a "Gathurin"?? ... What's this all about ??

    What's a "Gathurin"?? ... What's this all about ??

For the Newer Pet Talkers, and anyone else who hasn't seen the
sometimes "lengthy" posts devoted to Planning these Events,
and the always enjoyable "Reports" (complete with extensive
Photo Coverage) of the Events ~

Here's a capsule summary of What Goes On:

We "Gather" at the very nice Hancock County Park District "Dog Park" in the
    north-western corner of OHIO.
    Facilities include:

    * A 2-acre fully fenced OFF-leash Dog Park - with picnic tables, running water,
a few shade trees, grass, a lil mud, a collection of toys & balls -
a fine place to let a Friendly Pooch *romp* with other dogs.

    * And 100 feet away ~ An enclosed (on two sides) Covered Picnic Pavilion
with concrete floor, picnic tables to seat 90 or so, electrical outlets,
2 charcoal grills - and enough Food & Covered Dishes to feed a mid-sized army!
    (We NEVER go away hungry!!)
We Reserve and Rent the Pavilion - so there's no risk of it being "occupied"
by anyone except our Pet Talk Gang.

    * Within 500 feet - there are two CLEAN Rest Rooms ~ OK, they don't *flush* -
but they ARE "clean", have concrete floors, and locking doors!

    * A large, paved parking lot is within sight of the Dog Park and Pavilion.

    * Many wooded Trails through the beautiful Park are available, but most
Folks hang with the Gang in the Dog Park or at the Pavilion.

    * Food is casual / picnic stuff - everyone brings a lil extra to share - and as
said before - ya won't be hungry when you leave!

We can't stress enough that EVERYone is More than Welcome!!
We were all "strangers" when we came to our "first one" -
and most everyone who has been to one keeps coming back!

    NEW This Year ~~~
The Hancock Park District has DROPPED the requirement that the DOGS have to be "Registered"
to enter the Dog Park area, and NO Fees will be charged.
    BUTT ~~~ PLEASE NOTE:
The Rules REQUIRING that ALL Doge have the following are STILL IN EFFECT:

    1) COPY (originals won't be returned) of the Dog's
. . Annual Vaccination Record (including distemper) from the VET...
. . (A Copy of the Office Visit Receipt is fine if the SHOTS
. . are noted & has Vet's Name on it).
. . DATE of Shots needs to be within ONE Year of now.

    2) COPY of RABIES Vaccination Receipt ...
    . . DATE within 1 or 3 years - depending on the vaccine used;
. . Most Rabies Receipts show an EXPIRATION date for the shot -
. . Rabies Vacc must be "current" (not expired).
. . (Fido should be *wearing* the Rabies "Tag".)

    3) All Dogs must also be "Licensed" by the City, Town, County,
or State where you LIVE. Fido should be *wearing* his/her License Tag.

You should make and carry COPIES of all these documents with you every time
you visit the Dog Park. If there's an "incident" (Fido is accused of *biting* someone) -
you'll be required to PROVE the above requirements have been met by Fido.

If you're still "not sure" about attending -
take a look at some of out Past Gathurins in these threads >>>

This might just be Jonah's first camping experience! I might have to borrow a dog from someone for security reasons.

Sweet! I'm not sure Cassie Cat would handle such a trip well.

Phred, can you advise what sort of dog treats are preferred, so I don't bring the dog equivalent of junk food. I was at the supermarket yesterday and it seems like there are even more different kinds of treats for dogs than cats! I saw "People Crackers" (Sergeant brand) at the Dollar Tree - are those okay? They sure are cute!

    They all LIKE Junque Food!

Doesn't matter if it's chewey, krunchie, gooey, soggy, fresh or stale ...
If it fits in their mouths, they'll eat it.

There are a few Pups on "special or restricted diets" - their Mom's always bring
appropriate treets and usually mention in later posts what is "approved".

The very few *phussie eaters* who turn up their noses at common treets can always find something they like from the assortments brought ...

I was kind of surprised to see this already up and going but what the hey, the early bird gets the worm - does that apply here?

I am sure some of us will be there - how many people and how many dogs is always the question and more often than not decided at the last moment. Of course, I will make my potato salad and brownies!

Johanna, Dakota might be available for camping - but she can be a bigger baby than anyone - Ever see a black and white Great Dane try to hide behind a one year old? Her size is impressive though and her bark even more so - so she can be a good deterrant by looks if nothing else! My Pippi (my smallest before Tucker) can be scarier. She barks and runs at whatever scares her. Most don't know she will run the other way if they stop and look at her so she works pretty effectively too. I think Amy would let you borrow one of hers so I can give you a choice of any number up to 12 (although Tucker is not very convincing as a guard dog).

dogs are compelled to snarl occasionally."

a: Hopefully will reduce the "excuses" of "I didn't know" and "We made other plans".

    b) OH, GOODIE!! (Now I don't have to *ask* before I do the menue.)

    YEAH! VERY "Impressive"!!
Especially when you're coming into their house to Dawg Sit ...
And that B&W mini-HORSE meets you at the front door with her eyes almost level with yours,
and saying "You don't BELONG in here!"

Calendar is marked. We've never attended before, we don't have a dog, and our 6 cats have no intention of coming, but we will be there

Dougie Darling loves dogs of all shapes and sizes - and I mentioned we could borrow one for an hour or so. He's ready

Who on earth could you be talking about Phred??

I'll know if I'll be able to come when we get a little closer.
(nephew's B-day is always celebrated that weekend, and I'll be pushing for a Saturday or Monday party!!)

If I'm able I will be there. I love the dog park meetings! This year I think I will be bringing Miss Katie with me also. I just can't bear to leave my sweet big girl at home. Since there are a few that are coming without dogs maybe I can get one of them to keep an eye on Miss Tori while she does her usual roaming around the dog park.

Uh oh, I forgot about the grandfurbabies. I know Sammi absolutely loved it there last time. It will be a first for Stella. I'm not for sure what she would think of the whole thing. Hmm, maybe I can get the skinkids to come along with me this year.

Like I said I'll be there if I'm able to

I wish I lived closer!!! But I'm about 2300 miles away. And I wouldn't want to fly Zoee over there, so driving would take 34 hours (non-stop).
Maybe one of these times I will just come. You guys do it again for Labor Day, don't you? I want to take a road trip anyway and we could schedule it around one of the meetings.

Have fun!! I can't wait to see all the pictures.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

We plan on it too. The pups missed last year, so they have to catch up.
