    How to handle extreme cold...pics

The temperature hasn't been above -40C/F(the scales meet there) since last Saturday. The huskies have some advice on how to handle this:

Two huskies are warmer than one. Always snuggle with a friend.(Antare and Muskwa)

Old dogs make the best pillows as they don't move much. (Muskwa using Sleet as a headrest)

Look as pathetic as possible. It will get you inside faster. (Pirate is actually doing very well. She just picked up all the tricks very quickly)

Pretend you don't want to come in. That way the biped will carry you to the door!(Delta)

Practice your "are you serious? I'm not going outside" look. (Chum)

Put your husky selective hearing to work. Do not make eye contact when the biped says get off the couch!

Run as fast as you can. Exercise keeps you warm!

Engage a buddy in a wrassling match! It's good exercise and fun!(Tehya and Mac)

Pretend you are too tough to feel cold!

Try not to crash. That can get chilly!

Apparently having Puppy Brain also protects you from the cold!

(-40! ) The coldest I have ever experienced was -20C. We had freak cold over Christmas one year and the frost was so thick it looked as though we had snow. It was amazingly pretty, but you certainly didn't want to hang about outside. Is it not somewhere around -50C that your eyeballs start to freeze over?

Stay warm everybody! Nice to see that little Tehya does not seem to notice the temperature.

You have such smart huskies! Tehya is such a trip! You forgot to mention that -40 is mighty cold for moms to be out taking snappies of their furkids! These are really sweet pictures. Stay warm, Tamara...you can always bury yourself in huskies for added warmth!

Oh my, I love it! What great photos to 'explain and describe' the advice, lol.

And yet again, why am I not surprsied, it is Tehya with a toy in the frigid temps???

Girl, get yourself indoors before that camera freezes to your face!

Thanks for the advice, pups! The first two pics are way too freaking cute!

Tamara, I can't believe your camera works in that temperature! Last year I used mine in a temperature of about -10C and it worked pretty badly. Not to mention that I was shivering so much that all my pics turned out blurry

LOL, I've never heard that, but it's possible. It was -53C with the windchill a few days ago. Exposed flesh freezes in mere seconds...just ask my nose!

Two batteries so I can switch them when one freezes, which didn't take long and real short shooting trips outside! As soon as the shutter speed started to slow, I quit and went inside. I'm pretty sure Nikon never tested the D80 at those temps but it works!

Great pictures, and good ideas for keeping warm. Although I think I like Chum and Anvik's (?) answers best.

I love the indoor pictures! Antare and Muskwa, can I please sit by you? And I love the outdoor ones, too! Look at all the sunshine, look at Tehya go! Maybe puppy brain keeps you from noticing just how cold out it is. Pirate, sweetie, I am glad you're doing well!
