Bad cat or sick cat...that is the question

My cat Gianni has always been the best behaved cat ever. He never got in the way and always used his litter box. I have recently moved and he is now using the whole house as his litter box. He has urinated on beds and in the tub and has pooped on the sofas twice. I have an appointment to get him neutered next week but I dont think that will solve the pooping problem. My dad is going to kick him out if I dont get this problem solved and i've had this cat for 3 years so I dont want to give him up. I've moved a couple of times in the past and he has never demonstrated this kind of behaviour.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I read another forum which says they found out it was actually an infection causing this. Now i'm worried...

Cats do not like change. The first order of business is to take him to the vet to rule out a Urinary Tract Infection (they can be common in males). If he gets a clean bill of health, get a couple of litterboxes and put them around the house. You'll also need to find the spots where he has peed by using a black light.

His appt is today. He doesnt seem to be on edge about the move or anything. He appears completely normal but he continues to have the "accidents" at night. He doesnt even do it daily. He's been doing it every couple of days. Just when I think he's gotten over it, he does it again. He's been getting more attention now because the whole family is watching his every move to make sure he doesnt have an accident in their rooms. I dont think he likes that. He's always been the type that likes to be left alone. When he wants attention, he'll come to you and ask for it.

He still needs the surgery so I am going to continue with those plans and see what happens afterwards. I could talk to the vet about the accidents while i'm there. Hopefully they could give me some insight. Since they'll have him over night and most of tomorrow, they'll have plenty of time to test him for infection or anything else.

    Thanks for the advice!
