    GSD Statues in New York!!

Hi, as you all know, the Twin Towers were bombed on September 11 last year. In memory of all the German Shepherd Dogs that died or lived through helping on Ground Zero, they are putting up statues of German Shepherds all over New York. I just want to know how many people think that this is good or bad.

    I think that is wonderful!

Not all of the search-andrescue dogs that helped were GSD's. A lot of them were Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Bloodhounds, and a lot of other dogs, too.

Great idea! I am sure you won't find anyone on Pet Talk that is going to object to a statue of a dog being places anywhere!

Even though I am a huge GSD fan, I have to agree with Lablover that not all the SAR dogs that helped at Ground Zero were GSDs. How will those canines be honored?

While I think it's about time that the working animals were recognized and honored, I don't believe that it should be limited to GSDs. There were many different breeds of dogs working long hard hours searching for survivors of 9/11 along with their handlers. I believe that ALL the people and all animals involved in the search at Ground Zero should be honored as well.

    Statues

Great idea. I'd like to see some (savable) pix though.

I'd like to see a single statue with a fireman, a policeman, a nurse/doctor, a business person, and a rescue dog. All were heroes that day. I think a single, stunning statue depicting the heroes of 9-11 would be a very emotional and profound statement.

If it's what I'm thinking of (the link you posted goes to a "page not found") there is one German Shepherd statue that was made, then copies of it were given to different artists to decorate - that's whay they're all GSD shaped, but many different images are on the statues themselves.

I think it's a great idea, GSDs or any breeds that helped out. These animals are heroes just as the fireman, policemen, and everyone else is, and they deserve the honor!!
