SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The man considered to be the father of the modern Frisbee is dead.

"Steady" Ed Headrick patented the first designs of the modern Frisbee after improving the aerodynamics of Wham-O's initial models.

Headrick incorporated concentric grooved lines into the top of the curved disc and added "ridges" to create better lift and straighter flight patterns.

Headrick's eldest son said his father died in his sleep early Monday in California. The 78-year-old had been partially paralyzed after suffering two strokes last month.

Ken Headrick said he'll honor his father's wish to be cremated, adding that his ashes will be molded into a limited edition of memorial flying discs. They'd go to family and friends who make donations in his memory.

Oh, we loved playing with frisbees as kids with my brother.
Thanx for the fun times you brought.

I must say though, that his wish about his ashes be made into frisbees was very special, I'm glad it's being honored.
