"I stood by your bed last night"

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined this to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today,
    Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I am not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house,
as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew.
That in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch
    you yawning and say "goodnight,
God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

What a beautiful poem. It made me cry like a baby. Of course at this point in time, a dust bunny would make me cry.

Rest In Peace Casey (Bubba Dude) Your paw print will remain on my heart forever. 12/02
Mollie Rose, you were there for me through good times and in bad, from the beginning.Your passing will leave a hole in my heart. We will be together "One Fine Day". 1994-2009

Thank you so much for that beautiful poem.
There have been so many times when I could feel Mousse or Ginger here with me, a slight move of the bed that only they would make, a brush of air where there should have been none, just a warm "mom I'm with you feeling". I really needed something like this.

These lines touched my heart even more as Rocky went to the RB yesterday. I can him see standing at my mother's and Reinhold's bed, sitting next to them at breakfast and playing around them when they walk with Emma...

They did have a sleepless night and missed him terrible when they had breakfast, and they thought of him all day!

    Thanks for sharing this poem!

This one always makes me cry. I'm editing a Christmas pic of Dasher and Doogie, laughing at it, and all of a sudden the tears come from missing Duke. They came from nowhere. I'm so thankful to him for sending Dasher to me. I do wish I could see him sometime. Maybe in a few years when it doesn't hurt as much.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.
