Dear fellow, full to the max, weary rescuers and volunteers,
This is not just another *Please read* emails. I am playing a card I didn't
want to but am forced to at this point in my life. We all get tired of
pleas for help because we just can't save the world. Though we all try.
Please read and pass this along. It can't hurt. I always read these and
either help and/or forward them.
I have been in cat rescue for over 8 years. I currently have 22 foster
cats. All have been s/n, vaccinated, socialized and well taken care of.
In January, my Mom was dx with a rare brain cancer. I live in Savannah, she
lives in south Florida. I have been back and forth for weeks at th e time
to help care for her. She was given 6 months to live. I'm ecstatic to
report that her last MRI showed no abnormal growth! So far she has beaten
the odds. She continues to have chemo therapy every 6 weeks.
In April, we had another blow to the family. My (grown) children's father
had a stroke at work and never came out of the coma. He was buried 5 days
later at age 53.
In June, I was dx with endometrial cancer. I had surgery on August 13th and
am currently undergoing radiation tx. This has been a very trying time for
me and the cats. I have not been able to transport them to Petsmart as
usual, or participate in any fundraisers, events, etc.....
My Mom was admitted to the hospital last week and dx with Pulmonary
Fibrosis. I made the 7 hour trip this weekend to be with her. For her to
come through the Glioblastoma thus far and then get struck with this is
almost too much to bear. However, we know th at God will not give us more
than we can handle.
Which brings me to the obvious topic. I need to find homes for as many of
the 22 cats as possible. They are all adoptable.....and most all of them
have lived together for at least the past year. They range in ages from 7
weeks to 8 years.
If they could go in pairs, I believe the transaction would be so much easier
on them since they are such creatures of habit.
I have to concentrate on my health and my Mother for now. It's time I put
my priorities in order. Finding reputable homes for the cats is now my
number 1 priority.
I have one cat, Mr. Biggles, who is 2 and a half, who lived the first 2
years in a rabbit cage because he tested positive for feline leukemia. I
heard about him, brought him home and he has been living in my sunroom since
April. He is so lonely, but I can't let him mingle with the other cats. He
desperately needs to go to an only cat home or one with another positive
cat. He is such a lover...loves belly rubs.....loves attention.....adores
me. I bring him into my bedroom every night to spend a couple of hours with
me while I catch up on paperwork, scheduling, resting, etc....
I get emails of pleas to help animals every single day of my life. I have
helped as many as I could over the years. This is the first time I have had
to go *public* asking for help.
I do not have the strength, nor the time to contact each and every possible
rescue organization. We know all rescues are full to the hilt. I know it
better than anyone.
If you would, please at least look at the cats I have on Petfinder. The
addy is
hannahshope.petfinder.com
Most of them are listed.
Please take a moment and pass this to everyone you can think of, no matter
what state. I can have someone reputable check out homes or rescue groups
before transport.
All I'm asking is help for the cats. 22 is such a small number in the grand
scheme of things.....but a huge one for me at this time in my life.
Thanks for taking the time to read this,
Sincerely,
Brenda
