    Chipper again.... red growth

Anyone seen something like this before? I gave him a bath this past Tuesday with the medicated shampoo and didn't see this.

Came home tonight (been away at my parents) and when he rolled over for me, Andy spotted it. It was really dirty too, so these pictures are after I washed off the area.

Bug bite? Abcess? It's really rough to the touch and raised. He didn't cry when I was scrubbing it and messing with it.

It looks like maybe he rubs there on the carpet?

It looks like a bug bite, but I am not sure. I would just keep an Eye on it.

The beginning of a callous, like many older yellow labs get in that spot?

Ohhh Chips..what are we going to do with you??

It does look a bit like a bug bite, but I've never seen anything like it before.

It almost looks like he had a callus or scab that got scraped off. Is it raised any? Does he like to lay on hard surfaces much? My vet gave me a nice little spray when Tommy got a bad hot spot behind his ear called Dermacool. I like using it if I find raw/ouchie spots.

It looks mostly like a bug bite, since it's so red. The elbow callouses I've seen on many dogs have been in a different area of the elbow and usually there's one on both elbows. It does look somewhat similar to the lump Nebo had on his leg...not trying to freak you out but the vet thought Nebo's lump was cancerous (it wasn't). That's something I would definitely have checked out by a vet, just to be safe.

Also I guess I wondered if it was really as red as the picture looks? When I take a picture under incandescent lighting without flash things tend to look even more bright red than they are. Hoping it's nothing though. Keep us updated Kimmy!

I'll vote for a Callous in the making; or a Hot Spot.

Probably best if the White Coat passes judgement on it.

Vet's Kids College fund prolly needs a lil pick-me-up.

Yep, it's raised and really red. Bled a little after I scrubbed it. There was a small scab forming along the edge that pulled off with the washcloth.

I'll take a photo of it tomorrow morning to compare daylight vs. florescent light.

He doesn't lay on hard surfaces often (like Kia). He prefers the carpet, couch, or his bed.

I am hoping it is just a rug burn, you may try some antiobiotic ointment on it.

Hmm, I don't really know. But whatever it is I hope it's nothing to be worried about. That's the last thing you all need is another boo boo

It's darker and feeling more scabbed over like a callous this morning.

I'm guessing start of an elbow callous? If it was my dog I'd get it checked out anyways. We're seeing alot of skin problems and ringworm this time of year around here so you can never be too safe, better let a vet check it out to be sure.
