Drs. Foster and Smith foods voluntary recall/hold for testing

I just spoke with their customer service on the phone, while placing an order for something else. We started discussing the recall and she told me that they have put a voluntary recall/hold on some of their dog and cat foods that contain rice gluten. I am not sure of all of the varieties at this point, and it is not up on their website. She told me you can still order it online but it's backordered and none is being shipped out until they make sure it's safe. Just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone who might be using it. If you do feed any of their foods it might be wise to call ther customer service and get more information.

    By looking at the website:

Dry Adult Dog Food Lamb & Brown Rice Formula
Adult Lite Dog Food Chicken & Brown Rice Formula
    Dry Senior Dog Food Formula

None of the canned dog food

Adult Dry Lite Cat Food - Chicken & Brown Rice

I really applaud the companies who are being proactive about making sure ther foods are safe.

When will this end? I buy treats from them, but not food. I'll have to check them out. I suppose this is about the rice? I doubt the treats have rice in them. Thanks for the info.

She didn't mention any treats so those are probably okay, but I don't know for sure.

Hi - could you please include the link to their web site where it says this? As I am looking and I don't see it. In Fact, I see a message which says their food is NOT being recalled. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/genera...N=2002&gid=568 thanks

Here's their customer help desk phone number if anyone wants to call and inquire about the so called recall. I dont see anything on their site either.

I said in my post above it was not on their website. I was told this by their customer service representative. If you look on the website those foods I mentioned are on backorder as they are not being shipped out until they finish testing to make sure it's safe. I never said it was on their website. It's not recalled so much as held in limbo until testing is completed. They used rice gluten in those foods and they are being proactive, as I also already stated above.

It's not a "so called" recall, as I already stated in my first post. This was related to me by a customer service representative over the phone. If you look at the website you will see the hold placed on those foods.

They also state their foods are not part of the MENU food recall, which is not involved with the rice gluten, that is something different.

Thanks Jess for the great sig of my kids!
