    Implants

Has anyone implanted their pets? Is it safe for the animal, and is it worthwhile? Also, where can I purchase the ID implant? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I hear it's safe and worthwhile, but only IF the local pounds, shelters, and vets have the scanners.

I hear the downfall is that not every shelter has the scanner so if the dog doesn't have tags, they may not know it's yours.

ramanth is right.. I have Presley micro chipped and she is also tattooed(done when she was with the breeder) so i'm hoping if she ever gets lost someone will be able to identify her.
I got her micro chiped at the vets office.

At the SPCA they put one in Simba... he also has an "S" in his ear. I have no idea what that stands for really, but we say its stands for Simba!! hehe

Killian and Shiloh have implants. The shelter did it for free.

My Scout is microchipped. It was an important added safety feature to us, because he is deaf. It would be easier for him to get away from us without the ability to call him -- not that we ever let him outside off a leash, but just in case. He also wears tags and a reflector.

KayAnn, Would the "S" mean spayed?

I haven't ever implanted a pet, but I have never heard complaints of those who have had their plants implanted. It's a little extra security.

Some of ours are chipped and they also wear tags. I think chipping is a great idea, but make sure they scan the dog all over because the chips can migrate.

I prefer tatooing big time. I got to work at a vet a while back and from what I gathered the chip can migrate and you must have a scanner to tell if they are chipped or not (hence not everyone will realise that the dog actually has an owner).
