PROCOLLAR Protective Collar

Looking at this, it looks like a better alternative to the Elizabethan or cone collar. The prices are excellent as well. It is more like something a dog would easier accept instead of being a cone having to navagate it all the time, yet good enough concept to protect the wound. It looks like to me the dogs would accept this better as it fits more like a collar that a dog would already be used to.. What do you all think? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...8&N=2001+22762

I don't know about that-it looks easy to get off, to me. And also since it's plush, a dog could easily tear it with a paw. I would also worry about it's weight-it dosen't say it, but if its heavier I worry about fatiguing the neck.

The bite not collar is made to keep the neck stiffer so it cant turn- I know of a borzoi that got whip lash from those collars. The reason is the dog tried to suddenly turn- the collar held most of the neck, but not enough to keep the shoulder muscles into the neck from turning.. hmmm
Supposedly the collar is light weight enough to not be really heavy, but also wide enough to stop the mouth from moving farther down.. Not sure about this- if the wound was hight enough up the body- the back paws can get it.
I also saw a product once that instead of the neck- it was a body wrap- protects from the back feet as well as the teeth.. hmmm

At the hospital we've used both the bite not & pro collar, as well as the standard 'cone' with mixed results.

It seems to depend on the dog's personality and where the area is you're trying to protect.

And we have had a couple that could get out of all 3 types, or still manage to chew at an incision, fortunately those kind are rare.

I picked it up at PetCo, it has worked nicely for Raven but she hasn't been too determined to try and get out of it. (I'm keeping her cabled to my chair while I work until her stitches are out).

Woops, yes she just got spayed last week. I cannot wait until she gets the all clear to run and play again. I feel so sorry for her keeping her restricted all the time
