I got my first dog from a pet store. I was in college, was very young and knew nothing about puppy mills, BYB's, or pet stores. That will NEVER happen again!
My second dog came from my friends, who were getting divorced, selling their house and moving. They couldn't keep her, so I took her. Best gift I've EVER gotten from a friend.
After that, I got involved with humane societies and rescues, and that is where all my other dogs came from.
Except for Rosie, whom I bought for my husband's birthday last year. I bought her from a breeder ... something I NEVER thought I'd do. But, my husband had his heart set on a brindle, female English bulldog puppy. Not much chance of that in rescue or shelters. I looked long and hard for the best breeder I could find, believe me.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam
"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien
