    Trapping

My friend is taking mammalogy in university. Part of her course is trapping. They set up traps in a wooded area and catch small rodents and study them, then release them back where they were found.

She let me come with them today. (at like 6am -___-) It was really interesting. I feel bad for the animals, but I guess they're not getting hurt. I use to see it on TV all the time, and I would feel back because they seemed so frightened.

Anyway, they worked quickly so the animals could be released quickly.

Here are some pictures of what they found today.

I believe this was a meadow jumping mouse. They were doing measurements of him.

I think this was a deer mouse. (don't worry, the bag has air holes)

    Not very happy

    Redback Vole.

Man, they were all so cute! It would be really neat to study animals as a job...

From her post, I gathered that they studied them where they found them, then immediately released them...but, I could be misunderstanding. I tend to do that sometimes!

They are really precious little animals, that would be an awesome job! How cool that you got to go along with them and see what they do and how they do it. Thanks for sharing the photos!

They don't look to happy, but as long as they aren't getting hurt and they do eventually get re-realeased that looks like an awesome job to do! Those mice and that vole are so cute!

They are only handled for a minute or two. They are rereleased back where they were found. So, it's only a couple minutes of being frightened. They weren't hurt. I'm sure this type of study helps the animals in the long run.

    Glad there set free fast,

    They look so cute awww...

Sometimes when im bored I catch wild birds with my bare hands, yes im weird.

Its fun to me its just a sneeky catch then I show them to my parents and let them go, I caught a morning dove bare hand once and you know how fast those birds are..I have been doing this ever since I was little.

Even tho I catch them all the time there not scared of me and always come back altho a little more carefull..
