Long coated, most definitely. I will highly, highly likely never have another smooth coated breed again. Rottweiler length with the under coat is fine, but I'm a long coat person. I can't stand short hairs imbedded into absolutely evrything and I don't enjoy petting them as much either. They look nice but I do much prefer long hair. Personally, I don't think a lot of long coated breeds shed any worse than short coated breeds. Its just fluffy instead of short and pokey. Tango sheds the least of my dogs, Winston's the worst. Of course this isn't true of all long haired dogs/breeds but Tango isn't the only long coated dog I know who barely sheds at all.

medium to short, before Misty I was strictly a long haired girl, but After Misty I shall stick with my smoothies, Happy is a rough, and I keep her hair cut shortish, because I really hate the maintinance(I love to groom, its not fun if the dog is terrified of being groomed) Blair is a VERY rough coat and I HATE it, looks pretty, sure, buts it the absolute most horrable coat I have ever dealt with in my life, when we allowed his coat to grow he had to be bathed at LEAST 5 times every single day, in other words every last time he set foot outside he had to have a full bath, because EVERYTHING got stuck in it, we ones brushed him out and found branches hidden in his coat! we finally got sick and tired of it, and shaved him down, and I keep his paws shaved to the skin leaving only a tiny amount of stubble(like a poodle)

I did not vote, as i love both and everything in between. Short/ smoothe coated dogs do not nessecerily shed less than coated dogs . I know alot of Labs that shed a heck of alot more than my medium coated BCs.

Did you know I thought long haired dogs barley shed a few years back? I had a Dalmatian, hello! #1 heaviest shedding breed EVER! I'm SO shocked when people are supprised that Niņo sheds, that's like the only dal quality he has.

I like long haired dogs. They come with both options. If you get sick of grooming you can cut it and have a short haired dog for a while. I like to be able to groom.

Gonzo is a medium-coat, and Fozzie has a smooth coat. I LOVE both of their coats, as long as they're silky & healthy, they won't shed excessively. I like the contrast, honestly. Gonzo's really soft and snuggly and Fozzie is just as snuggly, just a slick version.

I think a lot of people get sucked into that misnomer that the shorter the hair the lower the shedding. Both my Smooth Coated Collies shed way more then my Medium Coated Cairn Terriers.

The Cairns have the type of coat that you have to trim or pluck, or it keeps growing to an unsightly mess, but at least it's not on the floor and everything else in the house.

The Collies never need trimming, but you're constantly either picking hair up off the floor or brushing'em to try to get if off their bodies 'fore it hits the floor. I never have to worry about their hair matting or stuff getting stuck in it though and that far outweighs the shedding issue.

Never say never, but it's doubtful I'd ever get a long haired breed. I don't want to have to deal with all that grooming. I love the look of the Smooth Collie anyway, so I can't see getting a Rough Collie, when you can get the same great Collie personality in a low maintenance package.
