Yes, I too believe that he assumed a "lower than previous" profile in regard to his private life. It wasn't all that often that we heard of events in his private life in later years, but you always heard of his work in the Senate and for the people he represented.
Thanks-Can I read your mind now?

Such sadness in the Kennedy family for two generations. I knew he was not in the best of health on inauguration day but I didn't realize his condition had gone down that fast. Was Sen. Kennedy the last of the family to be very well-known? I guess you could say that Maria Shriver is, but I can't think of another member of the family who lives such a public life. I heard him described on the news today as the "liberal lion of the Senate".

Karen, have you heard any "buzz" on who might replace him? Would it be another person who could start at a young age and hold the seat for many years as he did, or might it be someone with a lot of political experience who could hit the ground running, so to speak? Does your governor get to pick his replacement? (I'm thinking here of our lovely mess in Illinois over replacing Sen. -> Pres. Obama) This is a very dumb question but - who's your other senator?

The gov of MA used to be able to appoint for a vacant seat, but, I think it was in '04, that was changed to a special election. Earlier this year Kennedy tried to change it back to an appointment.

When Kerry was running for POTUS it was changed to a special election to prevent a Republican gov from appointing the seat. Now that a Democrat is gov Kennedy wanted it changed back to an appointment. Ive heard even the MSM, not just Fox, is calling foul, something about hypocrisy and all that. I think it was Kennedy who pushed to have the law changed the first time, but I could be wrong on that.

I looked through Edward's voting record today, I cant say I was impressed.

Thoughts and prayers to the Kennedy and Kopechne families.

    Why am I not surprised?

I heard on the radio today that Sen Kennedy asked for the governer to appoint someone until the special election is held. Not sure if I caught that right but that's what I understood.

I have not had the local news on at all today, as I had calling hours to attend as a very dear elderly friend of mine passed away. This would have been her 96th birthday, so I preferred to keep the focus on her today.

Karen, what are calling hours? I am sorry for your loss. 96 years, that is a long life.
