    An Alpine summer day

Yesterday there was nice weather (as opposite to what we had most summer) and my boss was ill- so meetings were cancelled and I decided to make the most out of it and to take a day off.
We drove to Mittenwald, a little Alpine town and took a hike to 2 little lakes:

This is Lautersee with Karwendel mountains in the back.

This is Ferchensee with a small part of the Wetterstein mountains.

We had a lovely lunch at a very alpine place. Opposite there was this little woodshed in front of which the fire wood for winter was stacked. The face is a mask actually:

On our way back we came along Lautersee again and decided to rent a rowing dinghi. I love rowing but Siegmar had to start so I could take a picture of him. In case anybody wonders: the shirt is from jackson hole Wyoming

Just when we got out of the boat, a goat herd came along:

We hiked down to Mittenwald through a little canyon with lots of waterfalls:

Here many houses – and sheds are very traditional:

Mittenwald is known for violins and they say so in a central place:

Many houses are also painted, mainly with religious scenes. Did you know St. George and the dragon were living in the alps

How beautiful and fascinating. Thank you, Barbara!

Wow, what a nice day you had, the scenery is lovely! I miss mountains here. That woodshed... how creative.

Loved the pictures, but especially the one of Siegmar! Thanks for sharing.

That first photo is picture postcard perfect! Such lovely scenery, I love that you choose to share it with us.

That was quick thinking on your part, I think you are experienced at playing hookey? I know, you took the day off, didn't just skip. Spontaneous trips can be great this one was for sure!

Love the herd of goats. And the mask in the shed window, very creative one someone's part!

It was only about 5,5 miles hiking- so no problem to do it in one day.

I am glad that so many of you liked the goats- the herd was about 3 times as big than what you see in the picture and they were very cute- is what I think
