    I have a ? about ferrets

can you use a dog cage as a ferret cage if you only put it in there at night?

Although I don't own a ferret or know very much about them, it depends on the spaces inbetween the bars of the cage, and the type of cage. Is it like a travel crate sort of thing or an actual cage?

You can use a dog crate but the ferrets won't stay in it!!!!

Being part of the weasel family they can squidge through very small spaces, it is why they were domesticated and bred to be ferrets. Bars of a dog crate are too widely spaced and have too much give in them and ferrets are to smart not to take advantage.

You could resolve this, as it is the space you obviously want, by covering the dog crate with chicken wire or doctoring two or three ferret cages so that they connect.

I really sympathise with you here, cages never seem big enough!!!

    Raised ferrets

I grew up with my father raising Ferrets. It is true they can fit through a hole the size of a quarter so always keep that in mind. They also go to the bathroom in corners. So place a litter box in the dog's carrier in the corner if possible.
I recently gave a ferret to my father for Christmas named Measly Weasal. She loved her hammock. So I would modify the cage to put a hammock in it. I also got her a leash and harness to walk her.
A rabbit cage is large enough as well to keep the ferret in if you allow for enough exercise outside of it. I kept Measly in a room to run around in.
The suggestion of chicken wire is a good one. Hope you have fun with your Ferret. I miss my Measly but my dogs tried to eat her!
