    microchip vs leg band

I have a 20 year old african grey parrot who will require either a leg band or a microchip before this fall. The Canadian governments as well as American is requiring a new "petpassport" to allow our bird to cross the border and are demanding either one to be provided.
Anyone has any thoughts on which one is better? Our parrot might be too old to get accustomed to a legband and the microchip seems like a big deal to be arranged, i.e. sedating etc...
    Looking for guidance...

I know nothing about this but I do know that my dog did not need to be sedated to be chipped. Just a quick needle in his flank! lol. Isn't sedating birds a tricky matter? You may want to move this to pet general to get more responses. I'd like to see pics by the way. I love greys but I could not take care of one.

You should put a temperary leg band on the birds foot to see if it shall mind because some birds shall hate a Leg band so much that they shall even start to bite at there own foot but so far all my birds are ok with bands.
