I'm not fond of what most places sell as fruitcake - just loaded with bits of that candied fruit, etc ~ ~ YUK! However, years ago when Sears used to publish a Christmas Wish Book, they carried one that was sinfully delicious. It was a Butter Fruitcake - and was a light golden buttery cake just loaded with walnuts, golden raisins and real cherries - and that was all. It even came in an elegant red and gold tin - and it was quite expensive - but worth every cent. Sure wish I could find one of those again - I'd buy a few and put them in the freezer.

I just made some hot chocolate. Anyone care for a big mug on this cold day?

I'm with Ellie on that fruitcake; I had a similar one at some point that I did enjoy.

Been a heck of a week - could I have mine with a side of iced vanilla vodka?

While the company no longer makes that cake for Sears, they apparently sell a similar one - see this article.

Currently enjoy a nice cup of chai, and willing to share!

My family made fruitcakes to give as gifts when I was a kid. We all had "jobs" as part of the process. My older brother's job was to shell the Brazil nuts, my job was then to take each one, stuff it inside a dried date, and then roll that in sugar - and NOT eat it! It then got placed in a bowl, and I don't know what the other steps were in the assembly process, but Grandma, Ma, Pa and my big sister also had roles, I think my sister did something with hazelnuts that also went in. Once they were baked, they were stored in a cupboard, and brushed with brandy I think it was, carefully once a day by my mother, and recovered with a cheesecloth. Sometimes there would be one fruitcake left over, which we all got to share, it was yummy yummy!

WOW - thanks for that info, Karen. I checked out that site, and 2 of the fruit cakes are very similar to the cakes from Sears. And of course they are even more expensive than when I used to buy them, but I'll probably buy one of the smaller ones anyway.

When I worked in a bakery many lifetimes ago, we made fruit cakes every year. They were really good. Or maybe that's just because the boss let me have the last swig of rum and brandy in the bottles.

Tonight, I'd settle for a hot chocolate with tons of marshmallows.

Looking around, thinking it was time for a little something, just made myself a yummy snack. One slice of bread, (Oat and Honey bread from When Pigs Fly) was sitting there, as three slices had been stuck together when I went to thaw a couple for my lunch. Toasted that, added a bit of marscapone, and then blueberry jam! And the good news is, there's enough to share of anyone else wants some!

Edited to add links to the bread bakery and the kind of jam, both of which are so good I recommend them to anybody! No corn syrup, simple ingredient lists, and yummy!

Got all the fixings for an oatmeal cookie and bread.

It seems like a good day to bake.

And for a cup of tea.
