Thread: Are there really more earthquakes?

    Are there really more earthquakes?

...or has the media started covering every single one of them since Hati?

The thread in General over the earthquakes in Mexico earlier today prompted me to make this thread.

These are the stories I've found online over the earthquakes that are the topic of the previously mentioned thread:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010...nia-earthquake
    http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/04...ja-california/

11 major news outlets and countless minor ones published the story on the Internet, not including the large amounts of TV coverage it got and the insanity known as social media (Twitter).

It appears that everyone wants to know about every earthquake that happens, no matter how big or small, since the earthquake that struck Hati.

    Go figure .

    What earthquake?

People want instant news and the ability to know that the people in the area area safe.

A giant earthquake kills THOUSANDS in Haiti and we get away with one person that dies?

I dunno, I want info in fast as possible, judging by how much we know about predicting EQs?

I am comforted when I get to see Lucy Jones on my TV screen.

Coming from a country generally exempt from large-scale natural disasters, and where the slightest wobble ignites the news, doesn't seem like too much has changed for me.

I suppose that since Haiti, it's become more topical? If it keeps people reminded of that and so helps the supply the aid effort, that's fine by me.

Either that, or 2012 is getting nearer.
