    Wood duck in neighbor's tree

This spring, my next door neighbors had a wood duck nesting in a tree in their back yard (Keep in mind this is the middle of Minneapolis). My neighbors questioned the wisdom of building a nest in a tree near a house with two cats in residence, three cats next door, and four more across the alley.

However, the chicks hatched without incident and we watched as the mother duck led the five babies out of the yard, down the sidewalk, and, we hope to God, to water and safety.

Could someone say a prayer for their safety? Alas, I don't have any pictures of the baby ducklings, but here's one of the mother in her nest.
