What's the difference between a Pembroke and Welsh Corgi? Thanks.

I'm not for sure, but I think one is bigger? I'm not sure if that's the only difference or not though ;/

Pembroke is Welsh. The two types of corgi that I know of are the Pembroke Welsh and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. The Pembroke does not have a tail and the Cardigan does, that's the biggest difference. I think there are slight body size differences as well.

    They are closely related.

The easy way to remember which is which is the Pembroke's tail is broke. Stupid, but it works to keep the separate. In fact the tail is not broken, the breed has a VERY short tail.

Sometime it helps to refer to the breed standard when you have 2 you are trying to tell apart.

    Pembroke:

    Cardigan:

On each page, the links to the standard, to colors and markings, etc. appear on the far left

Maybe I'm a little late to this question, but I'll answer anyway.

According to many sources, Pembrokes and Cardis are two distinct breeds, and may not have even originated from the same breed! (Though they don't know for sure). Pembrokes tend to be smaller, with slightly smaller ears, have docked tails, and are more outgoing and social than Cardigans. Pembrokes can come in several colors (red and white, and tri colored), and Cardis have more coat variation (they can be blue merle, for example). I've never had a Cardigan before, but I've read and heard they are more reserved than Pems but very sweet and laid back. Pembrokes are good family dogs, will bark (and bark and bark at times) at intruders or unfamiliar noises, and are super sweet and love to play. My older corgi Marta is 7 years old and still loves to play like a puppy!

Actually the two breeds are the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

I personally prefer the Cardigan, I'm not sure why.

I think the only real difference is the tail. I'm not sure.

This isn't a good site to get all your info but you can get an idea of the physical differences here. And there are lots of pictures

Thanks everyone for the all the info and the links! I have another question, since reading about the differences I'm thinking that the Pembroke is the more popular of the two, would that be correct?

Yes that in my opinion that would be correct. Again I prefer the cardigan but the Pembroke seems to be more popular.
