Dog Training Class ~ pictures ~

Hi everyone! I take Snowy to an obediance training class every Tuesday and since I have got some pictures I thought I would share them with you.

Not a very good picture but you can see that most of the dogs in the training class are border collies. They excell at obediance but I hope I can convince you that other dogs - even a jack russell can be trained too Snowy is the only small dog in the class.

this is "sit and wait", what we do before and after walking the dog to heel

"down - stay" Snowy and Tyler (the blue merle border collie) are quite new in the intermediate class so we (the handlers) stand quite near the dogs. Other handlers leave the room when we do this.

this is "recall". you make the dog sit/down and stay and you step away from the dog and when you call you're dog he/she should come and sit in front of you as demonstrated by Snowy.

walking to heel off-lead... I'm trying hard to get Snowy walking really close but we still have to work on this.

"retrieve" excersise. here I was using Snowy's favourite toy - a purple ball. She didn't want to wait for me to throw the ball

she's back with the ball but dropped it before she came to me yes.. we still need lots of practise before we can get it right.
One disadvantage of working with a small dog is that you have to bend quite a lot...

there are more excersises in the class but unfortunately I haven't got the pictures, but here is one more picture after the class

Snowy and his giant friend George saying bye-bye before we went home.

well that's all folks.. feel free to post your training pictures here as well.

    William

Wow! That is interesting, Jes has never been to an obediance class before, I train her myself!

Snowy seems like she is doing good for being a rookie!

SNOWY is doing well. She's so cute. When MAXIMUS had his class, we already knew most of the comands. It was more of a socializing thing for us. He was always distracted by the other dogs. He did everything right at home or on walks. But, in class, he never paid attention. Good luck with the rest of your classes. I'm sure SNOWY will show them all up.

Snowy, you will do well at everything you try to do. You are so cute and so very smart. Our new big nephew, Pistol(Aussie), will start his obedience training today. We're all hoping he doesn't flunk out He really has a mind of his own. lol lol lol

Snowy is usually distracted by treats on the floor and she has to do her "hoover" impression

Snowy seems to be doing really well! I can't wait to take Payson to his beginner classes later this month- I don't know a thing about training him.

Yes, even a Jack Russell can be trained, William, but you have to admit that Snowy is an EXCEPTIONAL Jack Russell. I am so impressed how she focuses on you. What a good girl! And to be in a class with so many Border Collies....you really have to be up for the challenge. I'm doubly impressed.

Conformation, obedience....hey, if you add agility, you will have a *triple threat* on your hands.

Rachel... agility is coming soon.. once Snowy is old enough. I am quite certain that if Snowy had to chose between Obediance, Conformation, or Agility that Agility would be top of her list
She has been practising a lot actually by jumping up and down the couch and running mad around the house

grybai and JenBKR good luck with the training. I'm sure you will enjoy it. If you can, please ask someone to take some pictures and share them with us

William, you are doing such a great job with Snowy. I have no doubt she will have her Conformation, Obedience, and Agility titles (and yes I have a feeling that agility will be her favorite, too). Good job, Snowy, you are both beautiful and smart.
