Thread: Nascar 2007

I guess we gave up on running tonight ...

FOX TV didn't even bring the Talking Heads back to say "G-nite".

According to http://www.NASCAR.com - they gave up sometime between 9 and 9:30 PM.

Race is Rescheduled for 1:00 PM Tomorrow / Sunday - Mom's Day.

Rain is supposed to be over by 8:00 AM on Sunday.

    Oh, well ...

Hmmm....I wasn't home to see TV coverage, but on Sirius they annouced the postponement until today at about 8:45pm. I thought they almost always took Mother's Day weekend off, and was surprised to see them even planning on running Saturday night. Wonder if it will be another off weekend next year?!?

Wouldn't mind seeing the same outcome of the Cup race as the Busch race...the Joe Gibbs #20 dominated that...with Denny Hamlin behind the wheel, but right team, right #!!!

    Hmmm. DE's car not legal?

    ---------------------

One thing that I have enjoyed about NASCAR is the that the races are bigger than the paticipants.

The DE story (contract talks) are showing the cutthroat side of the sport.

While announcing Jr is a 'free agent' - never thought I'd hear that term used in NASCAR- is a good thing, announcing it so early in the season should just about end his chances for a Cup.

I can see DEI withholding services, equipment and support for #8..

    That really sucks.

Junior was docked 100 driver points and his Crew Chief suspended...

    Sheesh..

    From:
    http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/head...ies/index.html

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. was docked 100 points Tuesday, and his crew chief, Tony Eury Jr., was fined $100,000 and suspended for six races for an illegal part at Darlington Raceway.
The penalty is a significant setback in his team's bid to win a Cup title before racing's most popular driver leaves after the season.

Dale Earnhardt Inc. will appeal, team president Max Siegel said.
"We are not disputing the ruling," Siegel said. "But we are appealing the severity of the penalty because the penalty itself is not spelled out in the rule book."

According to NASCAR, the No. 8 team was found to have violated Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing), 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules), and 20-3.1.3B (the NASCAR-approved upper and lower rear wing mounting brackets must not be modified to obtain a rear-wing angle of less than zero degrees or more than 16 degrees) of the 2007 NASCAR rule book. ...

NASCAR inspectors said Earnhardt's rear wing was improperly mounted when it was checked Saturday at Darlington. The brackets used to mount the piece were confiscated.
The infraction was the first on the NASCAR-designed Car of Tomorrow, which has strict templates that leave little wiggle room for a crew chief. The severity of the penalty was likely NASCAR's way of informing teams it will not permit any alterations to the COT.

Eury has never had a major infraction during his seven years as a Cup crew chief.

I think NASCAR has gone WAAAAAY too far with the suspension!

First infraction = take the money and give it to a Charity ...
Second Goof-Up = give the guy some time off.

SIX races off for a first time minor technical foul = not fair to anyone!
NOTE: The now "illegal" brackets WERE used on a test car ... I doubt this
was a case of intentional cheating.

    On a Non-NASCAR sidenote,

    Congrats to Dario Franchitti!

No longer just Mr. Ashley Judd.

He can now add Indy 500 champion to his resume.

    Hmmm,

    600 miles in 5.5 hours?

    Now I believe....

    --------

Why can't Dario be Mr. Judd and Indy Champ at the same time?

My slogan all year has become, ABH...Anybody but Hendrick! Oh, well...at least this time it was Casey, a first time winner! And how great to see JJ get his 1st top 5 and Kyle his first in 10 years!!

Gibbs cars can't keep running the way they are and NOT win...and once they start, watch out!!!

    Strange racing weekend.

A Scot, with an Italian name, living in America win the 500.

And a family name, that rocked Indy, wins in NASCAR...

And it's all down hill after that!

I loved what the announcers said. "JG is expecting his first baby."

I knew there was some thing wrong in that 24 camp....
