Happy Memorial Day!
Sam had a nice spring and is ready for summer.
Her last two kidney checks showed no major changes, and she continues to make lots of progress in PT. Kate came to the school for a session, and showed Sam's teachers what kinds of things Sam can do w/her prostheses on. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have the support of Sam's preschool; she's made so much additional progress wearing her legs for part of each school day, too. This means extra work for the staff, and their willingness to do this means so much.
She had her biannual hearing check, and it looks like it's now safe to say she won't suffer any hearing loss from the illness (a common result of meningitis), so that's good news.
Sam's jabbering away every day, and talking in complete sentences; she also sings constantly.
This past Mother's Day marked 2 years since the onset of her illness, and Sam has continued to amaze us with her recovery.
Oh, and Barney and the Wiggles finally have some serious competition--Blue's Clues! Maybe Cousin Buddy can finish this sentence for us: "Blue Ska-doo..."
Hope everyone had fun kicking off their summer this weekend. Thanks for keeping Sam in your thoughts and prayers.
Jessica

Another summer gone...hard to believe.
Sam's doing well, and is now in Pre-K at Precious Resources.
She continues to make progress on her legs, and PT is going well.
She's also made tons of progress w/toilet-training, and wears "big girl panties" much of the time. She's wearing new bifocals now, and her last 2 kidney checks have shown no major changes; she returns to Children's in December.
She had an MRI in July to check for usable veins for any future surgery needs, and it seems there's plenty of access, so that's good.
She visited both Shriner's hospitals over the summer.
They were pleased w/her progress in Lexington, and she'll return in 6 mos.; she doesn't return to plastics clinic in Cincy for a year, so things look good there. She did well at the dentist this last visit (she threw a fit 6 mos. earlier).
She had a GREAT time on her first vacation ever in Cape May, NJ; see the gallery for pics. It was so nice to finally get away. Sam's now looking forward to the county fair next week, and to Halloween next month as well...she says she wants to be a chicken again, which would make the 3rd year running. Good thing the costume still fits!
As always, thanks for keeping Sam in your thoughts.
