a very stoned dog is sitting under the desk. he had another one around 11:30 last night. after each seizure to boost his blood sugar, per the vets' instructions he's to get a small meal; peanut has learned this means a middle of the night snack, she loves the scrambled egg or cottage cheese. alex inhales the food and looks for more, he's willing to eat anytime.

    pupdate

alex has had 2 more seizures since sunday am. i talked to the vet and we're gonna bump his phenobarb up to 164 mg, twice a day, blood work to test his levels in 3 weeks. this is a lot of meds for a 40-ish pound 11 year old dog. i do get upset over the number he has had and the amount of med he's on and i've worked myself into a migrane, so that monster is here too-GRRRR, ya think head issues can be passed tween dogs and humans?

aawww poor you and poor Alex!
well actually my holistic/empath vet told me the last time I broke my foot that that was the reason kept hurting her legs - was b/c she was so in tune with me. I said TELL HER TO QUIT IT! b/c it was easier for me to deal with a hurt leg - than watching her struggle to do it! Lots of hugs and prayers on the way!

Joyce, I am very, very bad at checking the Health section. I am so sorry that Alex is having trouble with seizures again. And I was most surprised too. Snoopy had his first seizure since Dec. 13 on the 11th. He was 4 minutes long grand mal - I began to wonder if he was ever going to come out of it - but doesn't always seem longer while they are going through it? I gave him his medicine and followed up with a couple days of valium but he seems to be doing okay. (knock on wood). I checked my calendar and found that 3 years ago on the 13th was Snoopy's first seizure. So what was in the air?

Sure makes you think ,doesn't it? Another scary thing about this disease
would be that it can strike with no warning.

My heart goes out to you.
I had a little poodle mix that had some whopper size seizures when she got older.
I hope the meds will control them.
    Hugs to you and alex.

    old dog vestibular syndrome?

i think alex might have this, or a complex seizure or a small stroke, off to the vet. pupdate later.
