We have a MEGA space-puppy at our house (ie WAY out there from the meds)!
Bad news is it's a form of hip dysplasia.
Good news is that it's not too bad.
We've got her on rimedyl (sp?) for 2-3 weeks (ie a fast pain relief) during which time we'll make the switch to Glucosamine/Chondroitin pills (the healthier long-term choice).
We're also *thinking* that a little "FLUFFY THERAPY" might be just what the doctor ordered.
Fluffy = cuteness overload!!!!
Poor Sara--- but I'm glad to hear it isn't *too* serious. Those spacey pills should force her into some R&R. Silly girl!
I will continue to keep Sara in my prayers!
Thanks for the uppie-date!
Many thanks to Roxyluvsme13 & k9krazee for my great new siggy!!

Yeah, I think the "Fluffy therapy" is definitely the way to go!
Glad to hear that it's not too bad, but sorry that she had to get this diagnosis.
Hope Sara will be moving around better soon. The medicine
& especially the Glucosamine/Chondroitin pills should help a lot.
It might take awhile to show the effects as it has to build up in
her system, but it has helped many pupsters. The Fluffy therapy
is AWESOME. The Fluffy therapy should be started ASAP.

Hope you won't have trouble giving Sara the medicine. I hope she feels better soon.

Hey Zipp ~
Did Doc say "...it IS a form of hip dysplasia"?
First GSD "Casey" (RB ) was thought to be suffering hip dysplasia when she became sore and stiff in the hips at age 5... But a close examination determined her hips were reasonably "tight" - and that she was actually suffering from arthritis.
We were cautioned to not let her "overdo" her running, jumping, and fetching... Yea, RIGHT, Doc!
Back in those days the *fix* for Dawggie Arthritis was either Hi-Tech meds or plain ole ASPIRIN. We chose the aspirin route because there were Less Possible Side-Effects; and Casey lived a pain-free and VERY Active life to 13.
Smokey, with his Bum Knee, takes Glucosamine AND aspirin. You might ask the Vet if *aspirin* could or should be given to Sara after the Rimadyl is finished.
As for the thought that
"... a little "FLUFFY THERAPY" might be just what the doctor ordered..."
Sara could prolly forget ALL ABOUT her aches & pains with Miz Fluffy
around to distract her!
SO Glad Miz Sara has a manageable problem that
can be dealt with!

Yes, he did. Said she had a couple bone spurs but he didn't see any signs of arthritis.Originally posted by Cinder & Smoke

I forgot to thank everyone in my earlier thread, so THANK YOU for all the good thoughts/wishes!!!
Fluffy-Therapy isn't for sure, we're not 100% certain how Sara would react to a p-u-p-p-y. Also, there's the "dog-aggressive" K'Cee to factor into the equation....
We'll see.
Glad to hear that Sara is okay Tonya...and totally think that a little Fluffy thearpy would be worth looking in to.
Goonies never say die!
Thanks Amy for the great sig!
Sorry to hear the news about Sara but at least it's not too serious.... I hope with the meds she'll be feeling better really soon!
And I hope you go with the "Fluffy" therapy (but maybe a name change? lol) also!! What a CUTIE!
Glad to hear it wasn't more serious, Zip. Cody was diagnosed at age 2 and does have some arthritis in that one hip. But she does great on GC alone and we make sure she keeps her weight down. A few extra pounds and she's limping big time. But at her fighting weight, she can race up our very step staircase to bed and has no trouble at all jumping into the back of our Trooper. Hope Sara starts begin better very soon!

I take Glucosamine for my arthritis. It does help.Originally posted by Cinder & Smoke

Looks like a certain angel bunny knows her stuff! Oh, course I'm not surprised!
Sara, take your medicine and feel lots better real soon!
Tonya, it's good to know that Sara's problem is not too bad. Besides the Rimadyl and Glucosamin/condroitin, that Carina is also taking, I give her flaxseed oil to lubricate her joints. You may want to try it and see how it works. It's not expensive and easy to mix with food.
