    kicking

I know a lot of male dogs kick after they go potty, but why is that?? Kito just started doing it, and it cracks me up. He looks like he is dancing It seems he does it more in the snow--are they trying to cover it up, or is it something else??

    Kicking

Gully will go in a remote area then run a bit away then laughs at me and kick in some random direction.

I heard from Animal Planet that they do not kick to cover it up but to spread their scent out even more, marking their territory if you will.

It makes sense to me, most dogs do not kick anywhere near their poo

That's true, Kito always does run away from it a little, and then kick whatever he can up.
    Thanks for the insight.

Yup, they have little scent glands between their toes so they are leaving their mark when they do that.

It is not a male thing though. Both genders do it. A lot of times it will be a dominant dog thing. But they also do it when they are happy and comfortable with their surroundings.

Man my pitbull Wilma kicks like crazy.....with all four feet! The boys have to be careful they're not behind her when the chunks of turf come flying! LOL She's definately the dominate one. At 40 lbs it's pretty funny to watch her try to mount the 100lb mastiff mix. Hehe.

Both Sheba and Rocky kick dance.
I had a beautiful lawn for over 25 years untill
Rocky started kicking. His paws are so huge and he
is so strong, his paws are like shovels and destroying
my lawn. He drives me nuts when he kicks.

tikeyas_mom, all three of my dogs pee over each-others pee.
IF Rocky pees on a tree, Sheba will go to the tree
and lift her leg. Dogs are so funny.
