Want to meet my new ride? (pics)

This is Aria. Aria is a 12 yr old, high strung, off the track Thoroughbred. Aria was recently signed over to my barn after her owner made the decision to join the Navy.

Also, I'm kind of in love with her.
I just started riding her and she is AWESOME! After riding old schoolmasters for so long, it was a little disconcerting to get on and feel so much power beneath me, ready to explode. It was kind of awesome, though haha. We had one spook before I even got on (hail + metal roof on the arena = Aria spinning circles around me). But after I got on, it was all good...ish.

She is very, very forward. Once I got used to that, she became very, very comfortable. She is also SUPER sensitive - having not been used as a school horse, she still reacts to every little thing that I do. I'm certainly gonna learn to be soft with my aids, hehe.

Jumping was...interesting. We walked over the first jump. Sideways. We then proceeded to gallop to the next one and leap from a mile away. 0.0 It's gonna take some getting used to.

My trainer really liked me on her last night, and I think I'm trying her again on Monday. Here's to hoping we get used to each other!

Aaaand a few pictures from after our ride last night:

I am excited I've personally seen her jump 4' without any effort, and I know for sure that she's gone up to 4'6" with her old owner. SO. I doubt I'll be able to take her to those heights, but it's kinda cool to know that she CAN.

Oh gosh. Last night I rode her and we clicked! I figured out what I needed to do to get her to listen to me, and she saved me over a couple jumps.

Also, we jumped 3'6". One pole away from 4'!!! My trainer just kept raising the jumps haha. I accidentally buried her down a line (I rode for 5, she wanted 6, we ended up with 7??) and she jumped a big 3'6" vertical from like, UNDER the base. And cleared it. She's awesome.

I also accidentally jumped 3'6" with no stirrups. I lost one stirrup around the corner, couldn't get it back, and kicked off the other one so I wasn't unbalanced. Of course, we got a loong distance to that fence so I thought I was coming off, lol. Guess all of my time as a working student and hacking horses has paid off! My legs got strong!

*sigh* this horse is kind of amazing! So fun to ride and wow, can she jump!
