7.5 quake in CHina-2 minutes in length.

    THAT'S a frigging earthquake!

The prelim reports are 7,000 dead....altho the government news reports will not give you any real details.

How long is two minutes in an earthquake?

Get a clock with a second hand. Turn away from the clock and try to hold your breath for those two minutes. Nope, you have to try again!

Sit down and rock your body side-to side for the duration. Or jump up and down for two minutes!

I was impressed with the reports on that quake but figured you California people would not be quite as impressed as I. There do seem to be many more quakes of late and closer together.

    No, 7.5 is impressive.

It's trying to convey exactly what you feel, think or who you pray to during the whole danged thing!

My first impression is trying to get the old ticker from coming out my rear.

The USGS says that the earth slipped 30 feet along a 120 mile fault.

No ... only because the earthquake mostly causes pain, grief, and suffering
to the Little People ~ the Common Folk ~ who have little or nothing to do
with the poor political judgement of their "leaders".

Now if a few of the "leaders" had been *conked* onna headbones with some
earthquake motivated rubble ... but that never seems to happen.

I just got word from my friend in Chengdu (about 45 miles from the epicenter)that she is okay. She got off the train and about 10 minutes later, the ground started rocking.

    That gives some idea. WOW.

Think maybe the earth needs one of those do thingeys, "I fell and I can't get up!" But who would respond, to help? ET?

Seriously, the photos coming on the news now give some idea of the massiveness. Whole city blocks are almost leveled.

To think of the earth swallowing you up is just the scariest thing in the world to me. We had a slight earthquake here in OH, believe it or not, years ago and I didn't know what it was but it scared me anyhow. That's just too scary. Ma Nature is trying to tell us something; earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes.....

Aside from the massive earthquake of 7.9, what got to me is that they are having 5's every 15 minutes or so. After our 6.7 we had some 5's too........and they scare the devil out of you too, because you don't know if they are going to become stronger - or stop.

Mother Nature is still very much in charge...............when you have events that wipe out in an instant 10,000 or more people it is very sobering.

God Bless all of those souls......................

How scary for everyone, especially the children whose schools collapsed around them. Our prayers are with them, and their rescuers and families, and will be in the hours and days to come.

    I didn't hear that!

The Beijing media machine still rolls on. They issued a press release that none of the event venues were damaged...

We felt it just a little here in Guangdong but fortunately for us we are too far away to have suffered any damage. It is devastating damage however and thousands of soldiers have been sent to help with relief efforts - parachuting in with supplies and medicines where roads are impassable. The worst thing is hearing about the schools where so many children were killed.

Although there is obviously propaganda here, people are truly trying their best to help the relief efforts and no-one is hindering them - unlike the poor souls in Burma (Myanmar) whose lives are being endangered further by their terrible military government.

Please pray or send good thoughts for everyone who needs help to get it in a timely fashion!
