    Bummed...

While I kinda knew this temp job would EVENTUALLY end, and I DID apply for the position, someone internally got the job and will be starting around June 12.

Being home all weekend with absolutely NO access to PT has me a bit cranky. To add insult to injury, unless I keep paying $29/week while I'm out of work toward my benefits, they will stop. I've been going to a hearing specialist because of the hearing loss in my right ear. He said it MIGHT be a small tumor in my inner ear that is causing it and wants me to go for an MRI. I also have to take a balance test. I was having all this stuff done since I had medical benefits. On top of THAT, I had a mammogram, colonoscopy and bone density tests scheduled.

This is all too much to absorb for first thing in the morning. I just needed to vent while I have a computer to vent on.

My brother is kindly shipping me a used laptop until I can get another one (that won't be for sometime NOW).

I'm sorry to hear that. I know how hard it is to find decent work, but I'm sure there's something else out there for you.

I hope everything goes well at your appts. I think it's ridiculous that people should have to pay for access to medical care, but unfortunately paying the $29/week is probably your only option.

Here in Kentucky it would be about $29 a minute for medical coverage.
I'd take $29 a week in a heart beat. Not having medical coverage sucks, I hate being self pay but that's the way life is right now for me.

Regardling the mammagram, check with your local health department, hospital womens center. Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has grant monies they provide for women to get mammagrams. You can have the best insurance or no insurance they dont care. It's free to any women who wants one. That's how I get mine done.

Do you have the money to pay $29/week? If so, even if you'll be stretching a bit in the end, I'd say take it.

I stayed ONE night, less than 23 hours, in the hopistal a few months back. I had to have my gallbladder removed, and it was just unavoidable. If we didn't have medical coverage, we would've paid close to $30,000! And that doesn't include the anesthesiologist or the doctor. That's just my stay, some funky stuff I had to wear, and a couple of scans I had to have done. All we had to pay, in the end, was $250, along with $10 for my painkillers that we had filled at a drugstore, and two $40 specialist visits with my surgeon. Don't get me wrong, my parents would've paid the $30,000 if they had to, but $340 is SOOO much better!

I recommend doing everything you can to get the cheapest health coverage you can, and also doing something as quickly as you can about getting another job with benefits. However, feeding yourself and your cats comes first, so I can understand if you can't.

Do you think you'll keep your scheduled appointments? Were they all "necessary" or just "check-ups"? My dad switched to a new doctor, and he's having him go in for all of these scans and tests, just so they can start from a baseline, in case something comes up in the future. Is that what some of these are for, or are they all going to be done to find the reason for various problems you're having?

Good luck, Donna. Everything will work out in the end.

$29 IS cheap and yes, I'll keep it up if I don't get another assignment for a while. $29 is nothing and I'll just take it outta my Bed, Bath & Beyond check. All my appointments ARE necessary as I've booked them way ahead of time and desperately need to have some "things" checked out. I've been without benefits for SO long.
