    Scrathing My Furniture

I have two cats, and one likes to scratch my furniture. I have one particular chair that we would rather her not scratch but she does. We have tried everything including throwing a rug over but she still get to the chair itself. We are tried the following - scratch post near the chair, ribbons etc on the scratch post, water bottle. leaves wattle bottle near chair, verbal telling off. We are at a lost as I really would rather her not scratch this chair. Any ideas??

What types of scratching posts? Tall vertical ones? ones that lay flat on the floor? fabric? Carpet? Sissal? Cardboard? Not all cats like the same materials. Some like to REALLLY stretch out, others like to be compact.

How often do you trim her nails? My one boy scratches a lot and I have to keep his nails trimmed short - short enough that he can scratch merrily the day away and not do any damage at all. I do his nails at least twice a month

    Scratching Post

The scratching post is tall and carpeted. The chair is suede. Yes perhaps it is the different sorts of material. She has just had her claws clipped, and that did nothing to stop her. But the material thing may be the answer Thanks I will try to use a different material on her scratching post
