Mitzi - the news isn't good

I know I haven't been on here too much because I just didn't know how or what to tell y'all. She has been in declining health with her kidneys and then started losing weight late last year. Last night I came home to her barely being able to walk but couldn't get her to the vet until today.

Mitzi has a massive, agressive, very fast-growing tumor that has caused her femur to break. The vet is consulting with an oncologist radiologist to see if we can do anything, but I'm not too hopeful. She is just so frail and weak right now. The vet did say amputation may be one "solution" but I don't think she would survive the surgery.

So it looks like my little one isn't going to be with me very much longer. My heart is breaking.

Poor little girl. I hope some way can be found to help her, or at least make her comfortable. How old is she now? It is very hard, sometimes, watching pets age.

Vet just called. Mitzi has an Osteosarcoma – bone tumor which is more common in dogs than in cats. They are doing a chest X-ray to check for metastases to see if she would be a candidate for the amputation surgery.

If she is a candidate for the surgery I cannot afford it - it will run close to $3,000 which I do not have. I'm in a debt management program and am not allowed to incur new debt.

I probably wouldn't qualify for iMom - I don't even know if they're still around.

I am so sad right now. She will at least get to spend the night at home with me tonight. I will try to make her comfortable but I am just so scared that I am losing my baby girl.

I'm so sorry. But I'm with the others: not everything that could be done theoretically has to be done. You also have to think about what you put Mitzi through. This tumor really doesn't sound good at all. I hope she has a little time free of pain to say goodbye to you.

Smarties, she's gone which is why this thread is in the memorial section.
