Some of you may remember this post Turn the Page... when I sold my motorcyle. (Sorry but all the pics were lost when Imagestation cleared my account. The one that shows up is the only one I have here on my work computer so I was able to replace it. Will try and replace the others when I get home tonight.)

So.....yesterday I sold my Corvette. No money has changed hands yet so I hope I'm not jinxing anything, but we're supposed to "deliver" the car this weekend and we have agreed on price and everything, so all that's left to do is deliver the car, collect the money and sign over the title.

This is all part of our "big plan" to ultimately sell everything and go full-time in the motorhome, but I only put the car up for sale a week ago and it wasn't supposed to happen this fast, so it's all bittersweet.

There are so many stories I coud tell about the fun times that were had with this car, but I'll try to give you some of the highlights.
Here's the car, photo taken by a professional photographer behind the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. It's a '91 Corvette ZR-1, Polo Green with Saddle interior, serial #1173 (meaning it was the 1,173rd ZR-1 off the line in 1991).


This is one of my all-time favorite pics. We were up at Road America (race track) in Wisconsin. Terry is in the front and I'm right on his tail! We didn't know at the time that this pic was being taken, and I don't think the photographer knew we were together, he just snapped a pic of two similar cars coming into turn 5. We had the cars up at the track a couple of times and really enjoyed "playing" with them in that way. We could really run the cars the way they were supposed to be run without fear of getting a ticket.


Here's another one of our shining moments with the cars. We attended an open road race near Fort Stockton, TX. They close the entire road down for 60 miles and then let us run however fast we want to, using the entire road and with no fear of getting a ticket. Terry hit a top speed of 167 mph and I hit a top speed of 140 mph. It was a fantastic time and one neither of us will ever forget. Here we are getting ready to line up and take our turn at speeding on the open road.


Good times, good times. The girl to the guy's right and me to his left were the only two who had ZR-1's, the red head had a newer model (C5) and the blond had a Grand Sport. The guy was the chief engineer at GM at the time the ZR-1 was being made and is considered the father of the ZR-1 because without his continually pushing at the bureaucracy that is GM, the ZR-1 would never have gotten produced. We are at Beech Bend Drag Strip in Bowling Green, KY.


And finally, this is a poster I had made up so when we showed the cars people could see what I had all done with it. Looks great in poster size, not sure how it's going to turn out in small jpg format here.

Geez, I'm almost crying. I have never had a car that I was afraid to give up (I'm still in my first and only car, a 99 Escort), but, I love cars. I know nothing about them in the slightest, but, I love them. And, that's a beautiful car, I can't imagine how hard it's going to be to let her go. The photos you posted are great, and, I think the poster you made is awesome.

Kimmy reminded me that I forgot to mention, it is going to a good home. The guy has a collection of about 10-12 cars, this will be his 2nd Corvette in the collection. He is an older gentleman, and with so many cars to choose from, this car wil probably do a lot of sitting around looking good. It will live a pampered life, but it will more than likely never see a race track or drag strip again, and it always seemed so happy there. The car just claws at the pavement and just really wants to run. Hopefully the guy has a son or grandson - or somebody who will take it out and run it good and hard from time to time.

The guy went to the bank and got a cashier's check to pay me. He emailed me a picture of it!

Now all we have to do is deliver the car and sign the title over ....and make a trip to the bank.

Debbie, to be honest I'm just not sure I could ever do that. I'd end up depressed for weeks I think. As long as your confident your doing the right thing.

I don't know how you parted with that beautiful car! I had a 1984 Toyota Celica that I dearly loved. It had a bad engine and barely made it to the dealership to get traded in. I had had it for 8 1/2 years. I've never loved another car like that sense. At least you have lots of happy memories and some good pics, too.

I didn't realised that you raced, Debbie. I thought the Corvette was a hobby of Terry's for some reason.

I absolutely love your poster. I'm not surprised the car sold so quickly. If I email you some pictures, could you make one up for me? Alec thinks cars are only for buying, he hasn't figured out the selling end of things yet.

Debbie I do remember when you sold you bike and now the corvette, it must be really hard. But hopefully it willl be worth it in the long run.

Terry was extremely....well....shall we say....cranky(?)....last night and I think that's because it's starting to sink in that he's really going to have to sell his also if we're to stick to our plan - and that's depressing him. He's had a Corvette in the garage since 1971! - so this is all much harder on him than it is on me. I will miss the car, but there's just no room for Corvettes in the motorhome, and it's impractical to haul them around behind the motorhome. So......

Karen, first of all Corvettes were Terry's hobby first, but since I'm an awful passenger, it just made sense for me to get my own. I have no problem driving 140 mph, but put me in the passenger seat of a car going 140 mph and I become a basket case thinking I'm going to die any minute now. I think it's the being in control factor. Also, I'm not a "sit on the sidelines" kind of person and when we'd go to the track, I couldn't stand to just sit there and watch everyone else have fun - I wanted to be having that fun also, so I did. Not only that, but there is no way I could drive Terry's car. You know if anything was ever going to happen to it, it would happen while I was driving, so rather than having that hanging over me, I just got my own.

The poster was relatively easy to make. Just copied and pasted pictures onto a blank page and save the entire thing in a picture format. I then took that picture on a floppy disk to a printer who was able to enlarge it (keeping the qulity of the pics) and print it on poster board. I would be glad to see what I could come up with for you....if you don't need it right away that is. Things are just so hectic around here lately.

Thanks everyone. Last night I went through all my paperwork to figure out what the new owner would get, what I was going to keep and what was going in the garbage. The hard part was when I went out to the car to get any personal effects out of it. I walked into the garage and all the memories came flooding back. Had to just sit for awhile to give the LES time to clear up before I could continue. At first I thought the guy was an idiot because he wanted to know if I'd deliver the car to him - and he doesn't live that far away! But now I'm glad he wants it delivered so I have one last chance to drive it.

Gosh Debbie, I kinda know how your feeling. Only my passion was Camaro's. I've had 7 of them and they were ALL my "babies" I too made sure that who I sold them to would take care of them. People thought I was crazy once when I turned down an offer from someone I wasn't getting good vibes from. They all laughed and said money was money I should have taken the money!!! I still am glad I held out and made sure my car went to a good home and yes, I got the same amount of $$, just had to wait for the right person to come along!!


So what will you be driving now???
